The Ou Trekpad Eco Route

Post by Werner »

We did the Ou Trekpad Eco Route last Saturday.

It was a lovely summers day and believe it or not....we got a lot of water there as well.

There is a lapa that you can braai afterwards as well.

Here are a couple of photos.

When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

It was an awesome outing and we managed to see some "meneer" size snakes as well. The route is predominately sandy tracks which I'm sure will get more tricky as summer warms up the sand. I managed to get the IFS stuck twice but nothing a big right foot couldn't sort out on the 2nd attempt.

This is actually an great route for a club outing. The farmer is very friendly and accommodating (if you behave) and the Lapa has everying we need, including all the wood you would ever need. One can even arrange a sleep over in the bungalo if you play your cards right. Werner and I went with the Kumnandi group, hence the lack of invite to the rest of your fanatics.

I have a few more action photo's which I'll post later. Daai Cruiser van Werner was mooooilik met 'n vrou agter die stuurwiel

We have done this route as a Forum group in 2007, but most of the guys felt that the trail was not at all challenging enough and that it was not worth the R120 entrance fee. Also on the day we were inundated with flies, it felt like we were somewhere in the Aussie Outback. We have not been back since then, but if you feel that things have changed and it is worth it we can do a Club outing to Vaatjie any time.

There was also some controversy about some of the neighbouring farms actually irrigating their crops with water from the nearby sewage plant, which then seeps into those rivers you were driving through, hence all the flies... This was also reported in the local newspapers a year or so ago. I dont know if this practice was stopped since then.

The lapa and braai facilities are nice though, and a good place to have an after-trail braai. Niel, maybe we should do this one early in the new year?
