Geological Journeys

Post by pietpetoors »

I am very proud to say that my wife did all the cartography (the maps) for "Geological Journeys". If you ever wanted to know how the rock formations next to the popular routes were formed, this is the book that will explain it to you. Nick and Gavin explains the Geology in layman's terms.

You can get the book by using this link:

The SA4x4 wrote a review on the book on page 99 of the August 2007 issue.

This book was discussed a couple of weeks ago on the Community Forum. It received excellent reviews by Geologists and I am ordering my copy as of this moment! :)

She did it again. There is a new book by Struik called "The Great Karoo" of which Elmi did the Cartography.
I will buy the book and then write a review on the book but it seems as if it is the ideal book for those of us who loe to travel in the Karoo.

A new version of this book was published last month.
The first book (Geological Journeys) discussed the geology along the main routes, the new one is more in line with our offroad enthusiasts' type of roads.
"Geology off the beaten track" look at the geology next to some of the gravel roads in South Africa. Some areas are areas we often visit like Baviaanskloof, Richtersveld, etc.

For those who do not know hat it is about, in this book, Nick Norman explains to you how the different geological formations were formed and why they look they way they do. It is a very interesting, well written book with nice pictures.
Again my wife did the illustrations in the book.

It is available at some book stores and at Kalahari.net, click here
