It definitely will work. The problem comes in that it doesn't always stay in perfect position, especially when the weight is on the spar. It tends to slide through and that's where you damage your fenders. You can also damage your rims a little. Snow chains / chain ladders are a much better idea and are extremely effective. ;-)
