I have touched on this before in another thread but it was never properly discussed.
On your 4Y, how many of you leave the normal washer that comes with the spark plug in tact? Have you seen how they (over a period of time after some services cut into the aluminium tubes that goes into the plug hole in the head. These tubes are quite expensive, IIRC JohanM paid about R 200 for a new set as his also started leaking oil on the tubes as it was damaged by the plug's washer.
The aluminuim tube itself seals the plug onto the head just fine, but remember not to over-tighen the plugs as you may damage the thread in the head
Spark Plug washers on 4Y

I've witnessed the damage that those pesky locking washers do 1st hand :x
The other side effect of leaving the washers in place is that the aluminium sleeves become thread tapped as the washer distorts the aluminium hole badly;
so you end up sickling to get the plug off the sleeve :x
I don't think even your smarter mechanic realises those standard Plug washers are in fact locking washers designed to grip the head casting and therefore should not be used with Aluminium Sleeves :Geek:
