Lights on reminder for you 'lux (if it does not have one)

Post by Polarbear2008 »

I recently got caught out with a flat battery after, on an overcast morning, I left my 'lux parked with the lights on.

I vowed for this never to happen again- and went searching on Google to find a solution.

Attached is a diagram I drew of what I eventually installed after filtering all the info I got on the Net. I recon it would be possible to do something similar without the relay, but I'm used to using SPDT relays, so it works for me.

There are also some "black boxes" that one can buy, that will do a similar job, but at a price!

This cost me about R40 in parts, and can be installed in about 1 to 2 hours.

It basically works as follows:

When the lights are switched on, the relay is energised, but the buzzer will not sound yet. When the door is opened, the buzzer circuit is completed, by the door switch, and the buzzer sounds, until the door is closed or the light switch is swiched off. This works for all the doors.

I would like GertC to comment and tell me his thoughts on this one...

What I did in the past was to use a 12V buzzer.

Pick up power from one of the park lights - buzzer - to the driver side door switch.

Use TWO diodes:
1) to allow power flow from the park ligth to the door switch - this also prevents the cab light discharging through the park light
2) to allow power from the cab light down to the door switch - actually this one is to prevent power from the park light to flow back into the loom and buzz when one of the other doors are opened.

I want to add this to my Hilux ...... just dont want to play around with the waranty at this stage ......

Yesterday I discovered a small pitfall in the current design - if the engine is running and lights are on, opening the door still makes the buzzer go! Back to the drawing board we go! Will keep you posted!

  Waarom nie net die ligte se krag toevoer deur die ignition laat gaan nie as jy die lux afsluit is die ligte ook af :?: I
Sit die ligte aan en los dit aan. So sal ander jou bedag ook beter sien en uit jou pad bly.

I don't understand the problem :problem:
Since I bought my lux, I've never needed the lights on reminder.
Simply because everytime i get out of it, I stare at it once or twice in complete adoration before walking away, long enough to notice if the lights are still on.

And if your Hilux flashes its lights at you as you walk away, you go all red and blush...

One more relay ....

Use the normally closed contact of a relay. Activate the relay when the ignition is on, this way opening the contact. Now the buzzer wont sound when the ignition is on. Switch off the ignition and the relay closes this switch and the buzzer will work.

Chris,

ja I had another look at my initial design, and discovered something along the lines of what you said.

Rework is attached.

Maybe I should practice the "over the shoulder look" some of the respondents suggested - much less effort!
