Idle Problems With Chinese Y Carb

Post by Umvubu »

Fitted the carb yesterday. Test drived it ,fine tuned it. This morning it just would not idle, as soon as you stopped it died. Drove for about 20km before she stopped dying on me at stopsigns. It seems as soon as her temperature reaches the normal mark , things is normal again. Try starting her up again after a couple of hours , no luck - no idle. Could it be that I connected the wrong vacuum hose, I did what Rich said I must do. What about all the other vacuum pipes, not going into the carb ? Must they be blocked off also ? :? Rich -Please help !

Automatic choke maybe not working - Where do I connect this ?

Check that the idle cut-off soleniod is live when the ignition is switched on... if there is no current on the wire, then she won't idle cause the idle circuit in the carb is blocked off by the soleniod pin... check the fuse for the soleniod... I been caught like this once with my first Alfa! The idle cut-off soleniod is used to stop run-on after the ignition is switched off.

I'm not entirely sure where the fuse is on the 4Y, probably in the engine fusebox, just behind the battery... the soleniod itself is on the back of the carb(cabin side)... there should be a single wire attached to it... the other wires go to the electric choke, also at the back of the carb...

Normally the automatic choke and idle cut off valve must be powered up when you tun the ignition on.
