Visco vs Elektriese Fan
My rede hiervoor is dat my nuwe 4y baie koud loop, net oor die 70 grade.

Re: Visco vs Elektriese Fan

Re: Visco vs Elektriese Fan
Hi Borntofish,
I tried the viscous to electric fan mod, while i did gain a few horses, I hated it in offroad conditions, I found that the fan ran too much, was pretty noisy, and the heat gauge was always going up or down, never stuck at one place like with a viscous coupling(I'm sure the constant heat fluctuations are not good for any engine). I will admit that my installation was not the best, in my setup the elec fan was either off or 100% on. Alan(Hoppy) always told me that a 2 stage system (with a ballast resistor(I think??)) was the right way to do it, so the fan can run either half or full power as conditions require.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't the thermostat regulate coolant flow and therefore temp?? Is it not possible the thermostat is stuck open??

Ja Thys, maar as jy dit doen dan raak daai "mobile roadblock" hopeloos te vinning en veroorsaak dalk net `n verkeers opeenhoping!!!Kaspaas wrote:Maar Johan, as hy elektries gaan gain hy 2kW se krag, wat beteken hy verdubbel amper die 4Y se output...

I also thought that the termostat should regulate the engine temperature. I have replaced the imported on with a genuine Toyota one. I think the CFM on the radiator is to high. I can see the thermostat open on about 80 degrees and then the temp falls back to about 71 on the open road. In town is reaches about 77.

Re: Visco vs Elektriese Fan
Indeed does the thermostat regulate the engine cooling and temperature!!! The problem is that you are currently experiencing overcooling on your Lux. This I would say is due to the 4 Core radiator and would advise you to go back to the STD 2 core radiator.
The thermostat keeps the coolant under pressure, which again entails that the boiling point is raised combined with the antifreeze in the system. Therefore it is not advised to drive without a thermostat as it cannot regulate the temperature.

Re: Visco vs Elektriese Fan
Rather get a higher temp thermostat. Also try restricting the waterflow out of the radiator a bit so that the flow in the system slow down a bit. If that does not work change radiator to the stock one again.
I was always the on who was pro electric fan for any vehicle, but I was the one to swallow my words and tell Bretton to go back to viscose, the difference at Low RPM made up for the HP or 2 you loose on top.
Will I go viscose on the 7M? I doubt due to space problems but on a 4Y / 22R I will not recommend going Electric.

Re: Visco vs Elektriese Fan
Werner, laat weet my maar as jy die 4Y Radiator soek.

Re: Visco vs Elektriese Fan

Re: Visco vs Elektriese Fan
6 - 9 km/l klink bietjie optimisties. My petrol verbruik op di Pajero wissel ook soms van 6-7.5 tank to tank sonder dat ek iets anders doen, dit hang net af van hoe ek bestuur en hoe lyk die verkeer.

Re: Visco vs Elektriese Fan
Ek ry altyd 500km teerpad voordat ek by 4x4 wereld uitkom.

Werner dit is reg so. Jy kan my e-mail by Borntofish@vodamail.co.za

Jou fan switch moet so +- 10 grade hoer wees as jou thermostate. 8 )
