Oil in Coolant Reservoir, Help!!

Post by faiyaz »

Hi All!

This Morning after taking my LN65 Hilux for a short drive I noticed oil in the floor while I was reversing. Once I got home I decided to check and noticed a good amount of oil in the coolant bottle!

I checked the dipstick and oil level had dropped to half!! Last weekend I checked the oil and it was all the way up to full. I inspected the engine to check for any leaks as I knew this could possibly mean a faulty headgasket but all seems ok. I had changed the headgasket for a high quality replacement last year and have had no issues ever since. The vehicle has not overheated or had any leaks. The oil in the coolant is black, seems like it just mixed with coolant this morning. I decided to remove the oil cooler this evening hoping that oil was mixing with the coolant there but all seems to be ok on initial inspection.

I really don't want to open the cylinder head as I'm not sure if its really the headgasket that's damaged, I find it hard to believe it would give way all of a sudden. upon draining the oil left in the system did not seem to have any water mixed with it. BTW the Hilux is running a 2L engine the one with tappets (aluminum rocker cover). Any suggestions as to what to do/check next or past experiences relating to the above will be highly appreciated!!
