high pitch whistle/chittering

Post by Scotty62 »

I have a 2009 dual cab D4D, a couple of weeks ago I noticed a whistling/chittering noise coming from somewhere around the front left wheel, it only starts after the car has warmed up a bit and around 60kmh. It doesn't change pitch with speed, just remains constant. After getting the vehicle serviced the mechanics could not isolate the noise, as when up on the hoist, with no load, the noise doesn't manifest, its only while driving under normal road conditions. anyone have any idea what it could be. the vehicle is an auto.

Any help would be appreciated :)

No idea really, but I would check wheel bearings just to be safe.

Thanks for the input Baasvark, the wheel bearings have been checked out and deemed to be fine. I had the mechanic check them when I had the brakes and rotors serviced. I'm now thinking possibly diff bearings or seals, taking her to a different mechanic to get a fresh perspective. I appreciate your response mate, Cheers

It ended up being the front transfer case seal, removed and replaced, problem finally solved. Happy Days.
