SFA Handbrake Cable Replacement
Hi all, I was a bit over zealous and managed to snap my handbrake cable. I obviously have to replace it ASAP but can't find any info on how to do this in my manual. Does anyone perhaps have any info on the procedure, preferably in PDF. Also, anyone know if a replacement cable is available, preferebly aftermarket, but agents if I have to. Thanks in advance. Peter

Re: SFA Handbrake Cable Replacement
Just spoke to Knysna Toyota and am pleasanlty surprised to find that they can get me a new cable in a couple of days, for only R265. Luckily it is the front cable and not the rear one which would have cost R1800. Would still appreciate any info on how to replace. Thanks, Peter

Re: SFA Handbrake Cable Replacement
So, my new cable arrived in Knysna this afternoon and I was happy to hear that it is only R194.20. Have not installed it yet, hopefully will do tomorrow. I found a video on You Tube which explained quite well how to replace the cable. There is a sneaky little spring loaded catch on top close to the handle which must be depressed which allows the shaft to move an extra cm or so forward. One has to remove the dash light switch also, to gain this movement. In this forward position, the cable end can be popped out of the hole in the shaft.

Re: SFA Handbrake Cable Replacement
At the end of the day, it was a relatively simple job to replace the cable. One doesn't realize how great it is to have a handbrake until one doesn't have one. Handbrake is actually working better than ever. I guess the old cable had stretched a fair amount over the last 31 years, as it was always rather weak. I haven't adjusted the brakes yet, but with the new cable installed, the brake holds solid with the lever pulled up just over half way. All of this for only R195. Damn, I love my SFA more every day
