D4D 300 000 km service

Post by PeterWH »

Thanks for all useful resources and posts.Long time reader.

Question my 2008 Fortuner D4D 4x4 is nearing 300 000 km
Had lots of TLC since new - by me only since 2010. Oil change etc every 10 000 and serviced pretty well by book. Not a lot needed doing beyond that: new clutch at 260 000. Suspension about same time. Steering spiral.. Super-reliable and never had an issue.

At 150 000 I changed the timing belt and water pump as prescribed - thanks to excellent resources here. But now wondering about 300 000. Timing belt sure needs doing. But do I rip out a perfectly good water pump (again)? Surely I will see the signs if it needs replacing - water leak, overheat etc??

Anything else that should be done in anticipation?? Plan to hang onto this vehicle.
thanks in advance.

Don’t replace the waterpump if it isn’t leaking or you don’t have overheating problems. Do a full service (oil and all filters) and replace the timing belt, pulley and damper/tensioner. When last was the gearbox and diff oil replaced? Another thing you can consider is replacing the coolant. Keep enjoying the vehicle.

Personally I believe that you do the waterpump when you do the timing belt.

It's one of those parts that can give you good warning ahead of time - or none at all!

Do you really want to risk being stranded at an inopportune time?
