Rear Breaks & hand break

Post by Tonyhilux »

Hi All.
i have a 2006 hilux and have always had problems with the hand break, I sent it for a test recently and it failed a roadworthy test due to hand break and rear breaks.

looking at them it seems when the jeep is jacked up there is no rear breaks working at all from the break peddle and hand break is just as bad, it only had new break pipes fitted last year and new break shoes and new break cylinders ,

The proportion loading valve does seem to be seized but have only removed it today .

I suppose i am wondering does anybody have any idea what the problems could be? Front breaks are fine, the foot peddle feels fine,

if anyone has any suggestions please let me know your thoughts

thanks Tony

Hi Tony. The LSPV should not be removed, it helps a lot with the rear brakes ... too much pressure and the rear wheels will lock up.

Since the brake lines, slave cylinders and shoes have been replaced, it makes me wonder if it was all fitted correctly.

First is the do a bleed test at both rear wheels to make sure that the pressure is getting there. Then remove the wheels and drums and compare the assembly setup against a schematic pic from a workshop manual on that model. It so often happens that it is reassembled incorrectly or even the brake shoes fitted wrong way around after cylinder replacement.

Hope you get it sorted.
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.
