YN67R Dashboard Cluster (Rev Counter)

Post by Stallion »

Good Evening to you all,

I hope all are well by the Grace of the Almighty.

My Horsie (Stallion) is developing a minor glitch on the Rev Counter. It has been Bouncing to Zero and back to normal while driving for the past week now, but only on minor intervals and then gets back to normal.

I uninstalled the Dashboard Clutster the 1st time for cleaning the Contacts on the Cluster itself, and also the Electrical Sockets that connect into the Cluster, and thereafter it worked like Clockwork for 3 days.

4th Day, (Yesterday), it acted again by Bouncing to Zero and back to normal for a minor interval, so I uninstalled the Dash for the 2nd time and re-cleaned the Contacts, but this time also cleaned the small Screws on the Cluster that make Contact into the Cluster. Thereafter drove her in the Evening and it worked like Clockwork.

This morning on my way to the Farm, it began acting up again, but this time, when I turned the R or L Signals, applying Brakes or Reverse Gear, it was Bouncing. Switching on the Park Lights, Hazard or the Headlights didn't have any problems, only when turing the R or L Signals, Brakes and Reverse.

Later on the way before the Half Way Mark to the Farm, it stopped working completely for approximately 15 seconds or so, and returned back to normal all the way to the Farm and back to town with no problems at all, even when turning the R or L Signals, Brakes or Reverse, it worked perfectly well all the way home.

Any advises or reccomendations on what to do next will sincerely be appreciated.

As for my standby option, I've inquired for a Dashboard from Nairobi - Kenya for the same model, and would also appreciate to know the availability and cost for the same from South Africa. Here in Tanzainia, they aren't available for this model (1994 YN67R South African Specs).

Attached are some pics of the Dashboard;

I doubt that those cluster panels are still available as new here either. Probably only available 2nd hand from scrapyards.

However it sounds like you have a poor earth (ground) connection on that cluster. Could be on the board itself (dry solder joint) and not necessarily just in the wiring.

Afternoon Andy,

Thank you for your quick response on this.

I cleaned the Ground Wire from the Battery to the Engine, and from the Battery to the Body today, they were filled with Carbon, and I'll see how it performs today.

This morning going to the Garage, no issues with the Counter, operated perfect.

How much would a 2nd hand cost there in South Africa, if there's a possibility to know. Again, this is just for my standby option.

Below is the pic of the front of the cluster.

Thank you Andy and Nic,

I'll visit the website Andy, and thanks for the costing Nic, that'll be equivalent to approximately 77k Tshs, excluding shipping.

After the Farm trip and cleaning of the Ground connections, haven't faced any problems yet, still under inspection though, drove this morning to work and back with no issues yet.
