Door Hinge Pin Bush Repairs

Post by Stallion »

Good Evening to you all,

I hope all well at your end by the Grace of the Almighty.

Reference is made to the above subject matter.

I'm currently a facing door dug (up and down) on the front driver side and have noticed the bush on the Hinge Pin is worn out, and also noticed that the pins (top & bottom) are welded, meaning welded to the hinges instead of having a locking clip. Therefore to replace the Hinge Pin Bushings, I'll have to remove the door, undo the welding to remove the pin, then replace the bushings, weld the pin and reinstall the door.

I was thinking of doing a half-cut (Cresent Moon) shape washer and install it onto the Hinge Pin, that'll act as a spacer and cancel the dug (up & down) movement. For that, what would you recommend to use, a steel washer, copper washer or fiber washer? Also, advise if this repair is feasible.

Looking forward to your ideas in return.

Best regards

I would think that it's better to remove the hinges altogether and replace them if you can get replacements up your way. Otherwise repair them on the bench once removed. Easier to work that way and pins can be built up or replaced and washers fitted if required. :winkx:

Good Evening Andy,

I hope all well at your end by the Grace of the Almighty.

I followed your advice and uninstalled the Door & the Hinges, unwelded the Hinge Pins, got new pins with Bushes, installed them into the Hinges, installed the Hinges on to the Body and reinstalled the door. Took time in un-welding and getting new pins with bushes, but as you mentioned, it was better that way.

Thanks for your advice.

Regards
