Checking Gearbox Oil level - Hilux 3.0D4D

Post by Darkwing Duck »

Good day
I want to check the gearbox oil level on my Hilux 3.0D4D
Any special tool to be used to remove the filler plug?

Isn't there a dip-stick for the g-box against the firewall? Not sure of this myself and don't know the vehicle, just thinking that I remember someone talking about it some time back.
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

I found the filler plug, it is on the top/left hand side, but a 24 mm socket or spanner does not do the job
Toyota SA said it's a special tool to loosen the plug.
I feel like loosening the bolt, my way, but then i need to replace it. Just afraid I might brake something somewhere.
Even the gearbox cooler is to close for comfort, lack of space to use a bit of moering power.
(R58 for new plug/bolt)
Anyone that had the same issue with spanners/sockets that does not fit on filler plug?
And if you are a DIY boytjie, how did you do yours?

I have opened my before. But the plug is very soft and I have replaced it in the past as the corners got rounded a bit
