motor swap

Post by NME69 »

I'm sure there is already a thread about this but I cant find one.
I have a 3 litre 5l motor that needs replacing from a 99 model twin cab 4x4 and have a potential motor that I could put into it. But, the motor comes from a 91 model twin cab 4x4 and is a 2.8 litre.
My question is, is it a straight swap with not real drama's or is it going to give me some problems. The spare motor comes with a whole car, so plenty other parts as well.
thank you
John

I don't know off hand - perhaps there are guys that can answer more specifically, but since you have the complete donor vehicle it shouldn't be a problem if the gearboxes are different. You could check and compare the boxes and if they are the same then it will be a straight motor swop, otherwise you could just use the donor box. :winkx:

Me thinks the 5L and 3L will have the same bolt pattern?

My guess would be that the motors will be almost idential on the outside? Do a visual.comparison?
