D4D Hilux Diff lock not working

Post by jdreyer77 »

Hi there,

My diff lock will not engage. We stripped the entire diff, cleaned everything out but still it does not work. The bakkie was sent to a Mayfair diff lock guys and they said that everything is working 100% but there is no power going to the switch.

My question - is it as simple as running a new wire from the diff lock switch to the back or do I need to take the bakkie to auto electrician for this?

Hilux 2007 D4D d/cab

Thanks

Yes it is. They tested the solonoid with 12v directly and it works.

Then you have an electrical problem. I would first confirm that there is no power getting through to the actuator motor at the diff using a multimeter. Remember, you have to engage 4x4 low range before it will allow the locker to activate!

Trace it back from there - could be that a wire has snagged and torn or been pinched - could even be a fuse or relay.

Unless someone has had a similar problem and can share some light on where else the problem might be, you may have to engage the services of an auto electrician.

Good luck. :winkx:

Thanks, I booked it in today. Did some reading and can be anything from ECU onwards and to trace the cable will take forever.

Maybe the actuator on the diff got some water in similar to what happens to the Land Cruisers. The water ingress and the resulting corrosion can happen to any Cruiser with difflock, even the pavement crawlers in Sandton!

They have a rather stupid breather on the actuator and this is where the problem starts.

Yes Marius, that would normally be the first thing to look at but Johan said
"They tested the solonoid with 12v directly and it works."
I'm sure that Johan means 'actuator' instead of 'solenoid' .
