D4D diesel filter housing/assembly

Post by Tsa »

Hi Guys

Any suggestions, other than the stealers where one can source diesel filter housing, specifically in Cape Town?

Thanks

Donaldson have a series of filters and housings - with better water traps.

They have a branch in Okovango Industrial area.

Many guys use these for second filters.

Donaldson supplies all the large equipment users. They KNOW their stuff.

Spoke to Donaldson and they confirmed they have the replacement filter and a different housing, but not a similiar housing as is in the vehicle now. I suspect dealers seems to be the only option @ +-R1300. Cant believe that there is no alternative/generic option.

Ben I cant find their address on the web ... at least not the Okavango branch.

Maybe these guys can help you:

CAPE PROVINCE - MANUFACTURING & DISTRIBUTION CENTRE

Donaldson Filtration Systems (Pty) Ltd
Kinghall Avenue, Epping Industria 2
Cape Town 7460

Tel: +27 (0)21 530 2900
Fax: +27 (0)21 534 7708

Ben if memory serves me right ... and this was a good few years back when I was at their Okavango branch ... past Cape Gate Centre, over the N1, then at the robot turn Left. First Right. And then it was the first or second Left. And they were on the Right hand side .....

I must say that the plastic housing with the filter element is definitely not the best system out there and I was quite amazed that Toyota went for such an option when almost everyone else is using a screw-on type diesel filter which is much easier and less messy to replace. The current system allows for some errors to creep in such as the O-rings not fitting properly and under or over tightening of the ring.

Just for the other members, Imperial Toy at Cape Gate sorted me out and about R300 less than the 6 other dealers I phoned which all just stated the same (increased) price.

What was shocking is that I replaced the filter about 3000kms (2,5months) ago and now looks like this already. Is this normal?....

Yes that seems about right. I replace the diesel filter on mine very 20 000 ks and have had ones that are almost pitch black. It seems that we have dirty diesel in more than one sense of the word here in SA.

My diesel filter looks like that every time I change it. They say it's not necessary to change the diesel filter at each service interval but a dirty filter has an effect on performance. My first bakkie was an Isuzu (300tdi ), I once got stranded due to a dirty filter, I must admit the hilux is tough

Tsa did you have your vehicle service there or just bought the filter? If serviced what is your opinion of the service received.

Hi Ben, No I have not used them for services. Just buying the parts and they were again happy to give a good discount. I always service at Barloworld Tygervalley as this is close to my work.

OUCH !!!!

my office window looks out onto this branch.

5 out of 8 services my vehicles had to go back for some or other half work .... :aggresive:

Ther Kuilsriver branch is in a whole different league !! But just not practical to negotiate the morning and afternoon traffic to have it serviced there ....

so now I either service the small stuff myself, or take it to 4xLux for the more complex stuff

Yup, have been taking it to Kuilsriver prior to TV, but just couldn't take the traffic anymore. Also when they drop you at work, you 1st do a ride along dropping everyone from that area.

Still under warranty,so for now it will have to do.
