2001 Hilux 2.7 fixed after 1 year 2 months at Toyota

Post by Frederick Lange »

Great pleasure to inform you all that Toyota eventually fixed my Hilux after being in their workshop for 14 months! After being at 2 other Toyota dealerships previously for 6 months. My poor Hilux never used since June 2011.

It had an electrical problem, would start perfectly and then cut out after 20 minutes, would then not start again before half an hour has passed only to cut out again after 20 minutes.

They stripped out the dash, stripped the complete wiring harness, had the immobiliser disconnected, removed the SAC chip, replaced the ECU, replaced the key control box, stripped the tank and fuel pump, replaced both coils, replaced the spark plug wires, replaced the crank sensor, replaced heat sensor.

Eventually a farmer from the Free State had his own Hilux serviced here in Jo'burg and made a comment to the technicians about the Hilux being there for such a long time (he had his Hilux serviced 3 times seeing mine in pieces).

The farmer recommended they check the black ring around the ignition working with the key transponder. They had another Hilux there like mine for a service, they borrowed the parts and MAGIC, it stopped cutting out! New ignition, lock set and the key transponder ring and we are back on the road again!!
done
The 2.7, now with 386 000 km's is back on the road again! I decided to spoil it with a make-over. Full respray done!!

Will post some pics soon!!!

:silent:

Interesting.... will have to keep this "freak" incident in mind for my vehicles. Did they charge you an arm and a leg for all that labour?
