Extra weight on Hilux bakkie for softer ride ?

Post by EbenBotes »

Hi, has anyone put some extra weight in the form of maybe a cement bag on your Hilux to make the ride softer ? Does it actually work ? What is a good weight to put in the back ? Please help

Which model Hilux do you have? Some sand bags in the back does help but most of your ride comfort is in the front suspension.

You could look at slightly softer shocks or a suspension modification. If you're driving an old SFA model, there's not a whole lot that can be done cheaply. It would need a suspension upgrade that is typically softer than the hard standard one. :winkx:
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

Hi, i have the new hilux, i dont use the back much, so i thought a 50kg sand bag would be fine on the back, any thoughts? Not keen on spending a lot of money

The old SFA Hilux does not have a soft ride; weight in the back does help, the heavier the better but the down side is increased fuel consumption. Reducing try pressure makes a difference; try 1,2 bars + 100kg.
The make and size of tyre you are using my also be a factor?

Take tyre pressure down & put sandbag on back, or
Kit vehicle out which will increase weight and ride comfort.
