Shipwreck trail near Kleinzee

Post by Tiffie »

Good day. My name is George. I am from Kuruman. If possible I want to ask a question. I plan to do the Shipwreck trail near Kleinzee. I want to find out if one needs a special permit? Is it a self drive trail? Can one vehicle go on the trail or need it to be a group? I appreciate. Thanks

Hallo George and welcome

It is a guided trail. i.e group. It is not to technical, but interesting. There is another trail (can't remember the name) which is dune driving. Much more technical and was the nicer one of the two for me.

It is a guided tour, the guide will meet you at Koingnaas, the old diver huts, and from there he will lead you along the route stopping from time to time to show you the ship wrecks that still exits and and tell their history. He also has a good knowledge of the field and its history and what De Beers is doing there. halfway you will have lunch on the beach (own food and drinks).

There will be lots of sand driving some rocks and some sections of beach. There is also a dune section. The guide has a good knowledge of 4x4 driving and will assist you if you struggle. Must have is a good air pump and good ground clearance.

If you have the opportunity to do it go for it ! There are petrol at Koignaas and at Kleinzee

Probably the same as here by the West Coast, you only speak it in an emergency.

The question seems important enough to qualify as an emergency. :D:
