FJ Fuel Consumption

Post by Black Sam »

Hi Guys, can you please advise,
Is there a difference in the fuel consumption of the 4.0 V6 Fortuner and the 4.0 V6 FJ Cruiser?

Your feedback is much appreciated

I would think that the Cruiser would be a heavier vehicle, so also heavier on fuel. The ratio's are probably also not the same or the price tag...

Don't know the difference in fuel consumption between the two. But the FJ and the Fortuner doesn't share the same 4,0 V6 engines. The Fj has the same engine as the new Prado 150, 200kw and the Fortuner with 183kw.

And no, it isn't just a tweak in the same engine to up it to 200kw, the engines is built differently.

The FJ and Fortuner use the same V6 engine, the 1GR-FE. The engine has been in production since 2004 and has had many performance tweaks over the years. The engine is tuned differently for various applications too.

Although both engines share the same name code 1GR-FE this is almost where the similarities ends. Almost two complete different engines. I have owned both and the FJ's engine is far superior to that of the Fortuner...believe me :cooldude:

My brandstofverbruik was op albei redelik dieselfde alhoewel ek dink die FJ is op die stadium ligter as wat die Fortuner was. Ek ry die FJ ook harder as wat ek die Fortuner gery het.

Many different versions on the 1GR-FE over the years. (Counted 29)
Main differences between the Fortuner and FJ:

Fortuner (GGN50/60) = VVT-i
FJ (GRN280/285) = DUAL VVT-i

Many other small differences too:

Re-positioned fuel injectors.
Higher fuel pressure.
Higher compression ratio.
Injectors closer to intake valves.
Electronics different. Even between Prado 120 and Hilux/Fortuner.

Interestingly I see that the new REVO V6 looks different too.
The big plastic VVT-i cover on top is gone,
and the air intake arrangement is not the same any more.
I got arrested for driving naked. I guess I shouldn’t have put four wheels, an engine, and a steering wheel on my bathtub.
I’m a do-it-yourself kind of lover.

They are both heavy regardless, they are both bricks and both designed to work well . Be honest, anyone that drives a 4.ol petrol will never drive the car without hearing that engine roar, I dont care want anyone says, that sound is addicative so your average fuel consumtion will be entertaining, the more you play the more you pay .At the end of the day if you want a toy and single, buy the FJ .Space is an issue I know, a baby chair wont fit behind the drivers seat. If you want a family car buy a fortuner. the FJ is a awesome to drive on and off road.
