Condor Skokbrekers

Post by Johan Havenga »

Help asb!

My Condor het nuwe skokbrekers nodig!

Ek wil graag so 30 - 50mm lift agter sien!

viewtopic.php?f=95&t=21990" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Kry jou shackles by Mikem (Johannesburg), East Rand Springs (Boksburg) of General Springs (Germiston).

It seems that the Mikem quote must be for new leaf packs at the rear etc. Not sure of front. What I did was to add one leaf to the pack at the rear (+/- R800 fitted for both, @ Van Zyl's Springs who are now Golden something, in Johannesburg). Then I replaced all four shocks with Bilstein's from Mikem / Afrishocks. At the front they made them 'coil over' with a nice substantial thickness of coil spring. Because the 'coil over' and the extra leaf at the rear lifted the suspension by around 35mm IIRC, they also made the compressed / extended lenghths of the shocks to suit (nice thing about the Bilsteins is that they are virtually custom specced for each application - in terms of both compressed / extended lengths as well as compression / rebound valving). Other nice thing about the Bilsteins is that it seems to be the last shocks you buy - they are serviced in stead of replaced. After around two years which included a >6000km trip through Namibia including Kaokoveld and a few thousand kms of corrugations and severely bad tracks, I had them serviced - cost around R400 for the lot, IIRC. So then the Bilsteins don't seem so expensive anymore.

Deon.

Yes the Mikem conversion is the ultimate! I wish I did that when I bought the car on 37 000km! I however fail the see the use of that type of capital expenditure for a car that is already 8 years old and that might be replaced in the near future! Furthermore the off road milage I do does not warrant such an upgrade. I would rather spend the money on a bashplate seen that the OE looks like a piece of corrugarted iron!

How much height did you gain with the Camils? Otherwise looking great.

+- 15mm under the lowest point of the vehicle in the front. Did not touch the torsion bars!!!

With the bigger BFG's my total gain was about 20mm!
