Cleaning Stainless steel

Post by WayneSchalk »

I have an old beer keg that no one wants to take back for deposit, so I came up with the idea to build a small spit braai out of it. I got it cut in half but I now need to get the rubber of it, the whole thing was covered in thick rubber. I used a blow torch to heat the steel and remove the rubber. It worked well but it left a black glue/rubber covered all over it.

What can you suggest I use to get the SS cleaned up? I don't want to damage the steel with a wire brush on a grinder. :naah:

Also remember to only use cutting disks and flap wheels that have been only been used on stainless otherwise you will end up with rust problems from the carbon steel particles that transfer onto the stainless. Search pickling and passivating of stainless steel to ensure that your stainless does not rust.
