Spaarwiel en jerry-kanne op die roofrack ?

Post by JJBotes »

Goeie naand

Ek het so bietjie advies of “brain storming” nodig.

My spaar wiel lê agter in my canopy want my extra diesel tenk vat sy plek. So ek laai hom gereeld op die roofrack as ek al mamma en die kinders se tasse en sakke moet laai vir `n naweek. :problem: :surrender:

Ek wil nog `n roofrack op my canopy sit en my spaarwiel permanent op die roofrack sit. Nou is my vraag soos volg :

Add a second fuel tank under the bakkie and get rid of the jerry cans. With a second tank you will seldom need the jerry cans, anyway they always make a mess and you end up smelling of diesel. This will also keep your centre of gravity low. I have two 80l tanks and can easy do 1200km fully loaded. Very little places that one will need to go further than this without a filling station.

Spare tyre looks cool on the roof :cooldude: but not very practical if you have too many candles on the cake.

I have an extra tank diesel tank, that’s why I’ve only used the diesel jerry cans once, but every time I go camping/fishing I take my own drinking water., so I load 2 water jerry cans.

Exactly! Load all your heavy stuff as low as possible. Fuel, water and spare tyres are of the heaviest items you will carry .... essential that they are low down. Centre of gravity is more important than most guys realise, even if it's just a road trip .... you might have to swerve suddenly to avoid a stray animal or some other unexpected hazard. A low COG might be all that saves you from rolling the vehicle.

By all means keep the RR, but use it only when there is no other packing space available, and then only load the lightest stuff up there. It could save your life or that of a loved one.

;-)
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

I have taken things like centre of cavity into account. My bakkie seldom sees speeds above 110km/h and I don’t do any serious off-roading where I feel that a roll-over could be threat.

Its definite that I want the wheel and the jerry can holders on the roof, I just don’t know which way around I must mount them. O, what I must add is that I use the empty jerry can holder to load fire wood, when I take wood along.

So where do I put my spare wheel ?

Enlarge the original tank, throw the extra tank out and put the spare wheel back where it belongs. Alternately fit one of those extra tanks that allow you to still fit the spare underneath, or, fit a swing-arm for the spare (not the most ideal, but still a lot better than on the roof. ;-)

Hy is effens meer aerodinamic as 4jerries.

Jou punt oor “aerodynamics’’ is `n goeie.

That's the purpose of the alu canopy which has side flaps to load and unload things, and then you don't have to always open the spare wheel carrier...
