Dreadnought has gone

Post by Traveler »

So Dreadnought has found a new home outside of Bloemfontein, and will sport FS numberplates very shortly. Farewell Dreadnought.

And I have been shopping around for some time. And decided on a Nissan Patrol.
It has 2 solid axles, loads of power, plenty space and a proven reputation (mostly ignored in South Africa).
This morning we visited Supaquick Fishers Hill, and now is fitted with Cooper STT (nearly fitted the first set of ST Max in South Africa), also a set of 16" 8J American Racing ATX Series rims. http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/WheelClo ... 2FMach+Lip" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This coming week, we'll add a snorkel and full TJM Suspension.

Before RTH I want to add front bumper and rock sliders.

Very good vehiles, difficult choice between the new (ugly) cruiser and the Patrol wich comes cheaper and better equiped.

Thanks friends.

George, I have heard figures of 25l per 100km.

The Patrol has been a favourite of mine for MANY years (a real halo vehicle in my view). And this Y61 still has solid axles front and rear; exactly what I wanted for long time (and the boss is happy with the airbags ABS requirement).

Hoppy, I looked at the Cruisers for a long time, but they are very pricey for what you get. And the new Prado (which I love) as like with the previous is IFS and looks a bit like a marshmallow which was left inside the microwave (but it is supremely capable and very comfortable). I have had a G specced Patrol as a company vehicle in a previous job in a far flung african country as well as G specced Cruiser 80 in another country and I loved both.

Baie dankie almal.

Ek vernoem altyd my voertuie na bekende skepe. My DC Hilux was Dreadnought, en hierdie Patrol sal bekend staan as Repulse; veral ook omdat heelwat mense 'n Nissan so afstootlik vind. :taunt:

Thanks Riaan, Bennie, Andy, Tumelo & Thabo.

Tumelo, is there any other tyre than Cooper?? I am on you with it.

Riaan, die rims was R7,600-00 gewees. Ek dink dit is so R100-00 per rim minder as Dick Cepek. Toe ek daardie rim sien was my besluit DADELIK gemaak.

Mark, the Diesel will return about 10l per 100km.

Yesterday spent some time with one major accessory; my Hilux Club Sticker.

Also installed a snorkel. My dad is going in for major-major surgery tomorrow and we had a father and son session. He sat on his camp chair and watched me wrestle Repulse.
I've never had it so tough installing a snorkel. That Patrol body is VERY hard steel. And it has a steel breather pipe which is bolted and glued to the body. Took some time getting that out. Did use some lessons I have had on snorkels I have done on Hilux's in the past. The installation came out very good, and I know it is completely waterproof. The hole saw that I have used for 3 Hilux Vigo installations, is now scrap or an ashtray after yesterday.

Mark, ek is besonders beindruk.

Thabo, hy is 2009. Sou nie omgee vir 2010 nie. Maar hulle is almal dieselfde. Nou nie juis 'n model waaraan Nissan torring of karring nie. Hy is reeds perfek.

Cassie, gladnie.
