Can you please inform us why you traded one SFA for a more expensive SFA. More power????

Re: Mountain Man's Confession
I also thought a lot about doing a swap like that, but there are two sides to that. The main factors why I do not do it at this stage is:
What do I do with the extra 100kw that I cannot do now
I lose the extra space in the cab
The price difference
So it is once again a personal choice. That is why I wondered, what was your reason.

Re: Mountain Man's Confession
Financially the decision does NOT make sense. However a 1994 Hilux @ 400,000Km Versus a newer lower milage vehicle is where it is all at. Once again a person can get cheaper vehicles and even higher speced vehicles a lower prices. That is true. But really speaking, we (my wife and myself) travel a lot and we also keep our vehicles for a long period of time. That being said it makes long term sense to purchase a vehile that will have a better chance of going the distance and also last the time. So it is not really about more power. It is also true that one looses the double cab etc. But swings and round abouts... what you loose in one area you may gain in another.arnize2 wrote:I also thought a lot about doing a swap like that, but there are two sides to that. I also agree with you. Not everyone will make the same decision. Horses for courses.

In all fairness, the ground was really soft on the left and as the wheels sank into the mud, it simply pulled the Landy off course as you can see by the picture.OOOOMS wrote:Eish about 3m off course.....must be using a Tom-Tom.....Mountain Man wrote:Of course the Land Rover got stuck...

Re: Mountain Man's Confession
Lucky you. Unfortunatly space in my current house would not afford me the hope of keeping the Hilux. If I wasn't in Joburg, i.e. if I was in a more remote place I would have kept the Hilux even if it was just for bombing arround. But really it would not make sense here in Joburg.Spartan wrote:I allso have a cruiser like that BUT I still have both my SFA's and the new lux that the madam drive's

We always used to say that when the Red Peril grows up it will be a fire engine. So really it's weird how it worked out.

Craig,
Only if and when required during winter months - for control purposes in the event of a veld-fire on the game farm
She's getting ready for her (is it a she :wth: ) 1st Moz/Zim trip. The only aspect of the Cruizer I really miss is the aircon

Eying a "mechanically sound" Nissan Patrol 4,2D P/U to carry the fire-fighter and do all the slogging Red Peril will be my general purpose trokkie - especially game farming activities

Re: Mountain Man's Confession
Oh that's cool. Where in Moz are you going? We went to BD Point in January.
Well I do miss the Hilux, some aspects of it, like the way one sits in the seat. I could drive for a whole day without really getting uncomfortable. But with the Cruiser, my right knee takes strain after a couple of hours. I think I have to look at a tiny mod to sort that out. It is almost as if the pedal needs to move further away from the driver. I don't suppose the fact that I have long legs helps much. My left leg is fine because my foot fits fine behind the clutch pedal. So in effect giving a little more leg room. So that's it really.
Oh and the packing space is great. Don't really have to be a ace Tetris player to get everything in.
Fuel consumption was not as bad as I thought and at 120Km/hr I'm getting about 1Km/L less then with the Hilux. The only scary thing is that once the fuel light comes on, there is the same quantity of fuel left in the tank that will take our Kia Rio from Joburg to Van Reenen.

Ha, ha - that's about it
Shopping around for a good 1-tonner for the farm, wouldn't mind getting a Cruiser or even SFA. The Patrol is a '99, in very good nick, appr 170k kms and going for around Rk80 - a '99 Cruiser P/U should put me back much, much more than that
