Don't know what they use now, but it used to be a rather heavy NiCad battery pack that they used with a normal incandescent bulb (not sure if they were 6 or 12 volt). By now they will surely be using LED's.

At least you are in a decent place!

Drive over to Welkom/Virginia and have a look in the pawn shops, you might get some 'minejacked' stuff!

Leave this product it is no good, we scrapped about 600 of them. they dont last.

I will get the details from the guys in charge of the new cap lamps we use and post it, it is a bit bigger but has an astonishing battery life. I recharge my lamp once a week.

Gents, even the miners are getting smaller....and has load of new technology.

We design and manufacture some funky new tech stuff for the mining industry ourselves like robust LED flood lights, area lights etc.

Depending on interest, I can arrange a special batch of mining lamps...LED Lamp technology, with small (very light) battery
Price: R620 for lamp & battery + R259 for charger. Minimum batch quantity = 20

Hi

Hope this helps: at work we use a light called MSA, their site - http://www.msaafrica.co.za" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; this is for runway maintenance at night.

Specs: Battery - 3.7v 4.4Ah (this thing can burn for weeks on a single charge, pretty robust also)

Regards
