Hi Everyone, and thanks for "letting me in".

After I sold Jane, my Land Rover Defender CSW 300TDi, I thought I would be sad for a very long time.
However, I have also wanted a LC for a long time, and my last Toyota was a Venture I bought new, and was stolen about 3 months later.
So I started looking at Fortuners, Cruisers and, only recently, a Prado.
I soon focused on the Prado, and have been told that the one to look for was the 3.4 V6 petrol.
I found one this week: drove it on Wednesday, and bought it on Thursday.
It is a 1999 VX with 287,000km, and although - as can be expected - it is not perfect, I think it is in very good condition.
It has been well-cared for, and has a fairly complete service record.
It is going to JB's 4x4 in Parow for a pre-RWC check (hand brake adjustment, etc.) on Monday, and should be registered in my name by Tuesday!
Next service at JB's will be in <3000km (it needs front brake pads), and the cam belt (changed at 150k km) will be changed at the 300,000 km service.

I do have a few questions for wiser (than me) members, in further posts.

She is called Barbara.

Cheers, Johan

Hi Johan, good to see you here :)

I took PraDog to work yesterday as per our discussion, she was bathed and all that cosmic dust that had settled on her the past few weeks has been recycled back to debris.

The Series 90/95 vehicles are fantastic, I doubt I will ever replace it as at more or less the same mileage as Barbara, the engine is now only run in.

Johan, you might want to follow up on the recall I mentioned, it may or may not affect your vehicle, but it is free.

Thanks everyone, and Eric.
Does anyone know where I can see the list of VIN numbers the recall is applicable to, without having to call Toyota?
If it helps, mine is JT111VJ9500046878.

Cheers,
Johan

Johan,

your Prado is part of the recall.

https://www.toyota.co.za/owners/toyota-recall
Your Vehicle is part of a recall campaign

Campaign Description: SSC-REAR AXLE SHAFT-LC PRADO09 90
Pretty nifty that after 20 years Toyota still honours this!
