Re: Attempted theft of my 97 SFA
Thats crazy.. The worst thing is that the public prosecutors are so bad at their jobs that when these ppl are cought they are often released due to bad court questioning and no real investigating. I cought 1 guy in my citi golf a few years ago and the other got away. I figured we had him nailed beca...

Attempted theft of my 97 SFA
Hi guys. Bought my SFA just more than 3 weeks ago and they tried to steel it when it was parked at the Milnerton market on Saturday. They did a pretty neat job of jamming a rectangular key in the front door and then in the ignition with absolutely no sign of damage whatsoever. I got to my truck and ...

Re: 97 Raider D/C 2.4 SFA Fuel Consumption
Ja thats great hey! Alan was telling me of an SFA that went on a 75 000km trip from Cape Town up the West coast of Africa, into europe and back down East coast. All without another service. Not sure if It had EFI. These things are beasts and im definitely happy with my buy. Just need to bring down c...

Re: 97 Raider D/C 2.4 SFA Fuel Consumption
Hi guys. I followed Thys's advice and visited Alan Hoppy today.. That man knows his stuff and was kind enough to give my truck a quick once over at no cost!! And in the middle of moving workshops during his holiday.. First thing he looked at was the suspension and Im surprised that none of us though...

Re: 97 Raider D/C 2.4 SFA Fuel Consumption
Ja I just want to cruise through africa with a truck that will get me out of trouble when need be. I have considered that the EFI goes against the reason for buying pre-electronics but I became interested when I read a post that said that some ppl with efi conversions keep their carburettors in the ...

Re: 97 Raider D/C 2.4 SFA Fuel Consumption
Hi Thys. I want to drive through a different country at the end of every year. Mozambique, Zim, Bots etc. Im off for a month at the end of every year so it would be about 3 weeks at a time. I want to do some basic 4x4 courses during the year but nothing too hectic. Just to get experience for the lon...

Re: 97 Raider D/C 2.4 SFA Fuel Consumption
Hi Tony. I went for an SFA because i wanted something pre-electronics to avoid those costly repairs. How much does the OME suspension go for? Ive heard that motors lose power and use more fuel the older they get. If I stripped it down, scrubbed everything down and re-assembled it, would that take it...

Re: 97 Raider D/C 2.4 SFA Fuel Consumption
Hi Andy. Thats interesting because I enjoy the the ride as is and dont want to do unnecessary mods. Saw some other posts and thought if it makes an improvement to the vehicle then why not. My girlfriend says I just need to put in roller coaster seat belts. :yahoo: I'll check the other posts again.. ...

97 Raider D/C 2.4 SFA Fuel Consumption
Hi guys. I bought my first 4x4 the other day but its allot heavier on juice than I expected. I did 450km in 3 days and it cost me R1000. Works out to 5.8km/L. Is that normal? Seems excessive to me.. I went up to langebaan with it(average 105km/h), came back and moved house so pulled a fully loaded t...

Re: 1997 2.4L Raider
Hey guys. Took the future father in law(a navy mechanic) with for another test drive yesterday. He reckons the whistle might be the performance exhaust or the tyres too high inflated or the canopy fin because there is a gap between it and the canopy. When we got back to the dealer he told him that i...

Re: 1997 2.4L Raider
Considering the engine whistle ill definitely get the price down a bit. I spotted some minor surface rust in a few places. Water channel on the roof where I think they had roof racks. The tailgate. The bottom of the doors(as you mentioned) but very very light so easy for me to sort out myself. And t...

Re: 1997 2.4L Raider
Ja its definitely mechanical. It happened both times I pushed it to 120. Was about 5min apart both times from 105-115km/h and then quitened down both times straight after 115km. Was a humming whistle. Not extremely loud or even very loud but certainly noticable and a bit worrying. No rattling or gru...

Re: 1997 2.4L Raider
Hi Kevin.
Yes it certainly has.. Was allot of fun to drive.
Any idea what the whistling sound was? Definitely coming from the engine. Father in law says it could just be a worn ball bearing..? Hes a mechanic but doesnt have much experience with 4x4's.. Taking him to see it tomorrow..

Re: 1997 2.4L Raider
Okay so I took it for a spin and it was bumpy but great fun!! Fealt good all the way. Engine runs smoothly and it took a bit of effort but it hit 120km on the freeway no problem . Only thing.. the engine whistled when I pushed it from 105 - 115km and quitened down on its way up to 120.. is that just...

Got some pics earlier. Looks like it was well looked after.

Re: 1997 2.4L Raider
Hello Im not too worried about speed on the open road. I average 120 - 140 when its clear and safe but never go over that. The top speed on the 2.4 is only marked at 160 so how will it handle 120-140 as an average? Most cars marked at 220 top speed start to shudder the closer you get to the max spee...

Re: 1997 2.4L Raider
Hey guys. Thanks it's much appreciated. I prefer the older models because I also wouldnt have to worry about electrical failure etc as the newer models rely heavily on electrics. Hi guys. I don't own a hilux yet but have been looking for one that suits my budget for a quite a while now. I've found a 97 2.4L DC that suits my budget and has less than 200 000km on the clock with a full service history. Im really keen but never having owned a 4x4 before I am hesitant as I dont w...
