Re: Wading through water - bow wave?
Chris mentioned something which I consider to be one of the important points, and that is the temporary removal of the fan belt, for exactly the reasons given. Radiators are not only expensive, but if damaged, you're a dead duck in the veld. Also mentioned was the wise preference of avoiding the wat...

Perhaps I'm old school, and electronic gagetry is more reliable these days, but if one experiences an electronic failure in the styx, you're pretty much stuck. Whereas with a carb and mechanical dizzy one can always make a plan and get going again, even if it's just to limp home.

Perhaps I am mistaken and some of the older members could clarify, but in my opinion it was the SFA that made the vehicle such a 'donkey'. The IFS has so many more rubber bushed linkages, ... more to go wrong, wear out and upset castor & camber. IFS cannot handle as much abuse as SFA (IMHO). I w...

Re: Tubeless tyres versus tubes in tyres?
Tubes heat up a little in correctly pressured tyres as well, nowhere near as bad because there is less differential slip between the flexing of the tyre and the tube at correct pressure. This adds to heat build up in the tyre on long trips which in turn increases tyre wear. If you drive a SFA, the f...

Yep, silicone will do it fo sho.
I've known of blokes in racing circles that use a 'high heat' silicone instead of head gaskets, since they so often take the heads off. I've done it on lawnmower motors with great sucess. Surfaces must be absolutely clean, moisture and grease free though.

David, there is absolutely no reason why it should not work with diesel. The principle remains exactly the same. Web sites dealing with this technology make enough references to this.
