Hi Piet, These all-in-one units are not all that they're made out to be. We had a chap in the other day wanting to know why his Nokia phone & GPS disagreed. I don't know, we never sold either to him! The picture quality of any photo taken by a cell phone is particularly crappy at best. Might be ...

Hi Justin, Simon might be the best person to give you advice on sorting out problems. I guess I am lucky, mine has no rattles & squeaks to speak of, even on rough roads. Might be your suspension that needs sorting out? Other than that, these cars seem to be very rattle-free! I used to have the f...

Hi CM,

You can order clear (transparent) covers for those Hellas. I have got clear covers on all my vehicles spots. Protects the lenses, and you don't have to remove them for use!

Got the covers at our local Midas.

This is going to require some thought... :) Generally, the more advanced a vehicle becomes, the worse its capabilities seem to be, so it's difficult to use SFA, IFS, etc. Therefore it's probably not a good idea to use these acronyms :P The rating should also not conflict with what vehicle informatio...

Hi Choppie, My '86 4x2 SC was originally fitted with a 2.4D engine, although when I bought the vehicle the conversion had already been done. It now features the 3Y engine and has a 5-speed gearbox, not sure if it is an original box or not. Here is a photo of her, with a view depicting the mudguard s...

Hi Piet,

As far as I know, you do not have to change anything. The ECU looks after all that for you, just remember to use the correct octane rating fuel, unleaded.

On tar there is no comparison, the 2.7 wins hands down, I even manage to get slightly better feul consumption (7.5 - 8.2 Km/l @ 110 - 115km/h) This is so true - the 2.7i drives like a limousine on tar. I also have the OME version on my 2.7i, and the vehicle has about 50mm lift over a standard 2.7, ...

That's it; the opposite wheel in a SFA will always have greater downforce than its counterpart in an IFS suspension, which leads to greater traction.

Hi Piet, Well, the IFS definitely gives a smoother ride on tar, but off-road on a rough trail is where the SFA is so impressive! Imagine an axle-twister, where you are climbing over rocks at a crawl, when, for example, the left front wheel lifts. On a SFA you will notice that there is now a resultan...

I had the blade removed today, and the overall result is a much smoother ride. Downside is I lost about 15mm in height clearance, but will have to live with that rather than the bone-juddering harsh ride I previously had. Taking a tape measure and measuring from the bottom of the front rim above the...

Removing a blade from OME front suspension

I had fitted a full OME suspension set to my 4Y Hilux, new shocks all round, and six leaf springs, front and rear. While this certainly increased the ride height to about 35-40mm higher than I previously had with the negatively-arched standard front leaf springs, I found the ride comfort to be uncom...

Re: 2.8 Diesel ?

I am in the market for a Hilux Double Cab. I see that from 1995 - 1998 there was a 2.8 Diesel. Can anybody tell me how reliable they are and what their fuel consumption is. I see their trade value is much lower than the Petrol version, is there a reason for that? Piet, Have a look at the '89 Hilux ...
