Re: Tyre Sizing On Spare Wheel
The problem is that you can't run different size tyres over a diff. The one wheel is then constant running faster than the other one which will damage the diff at high speed. Also using the diff lock is not an option. Better stick to the same size and manufacturer all round

I would also stay away from a rack and pinion on a sfa. What exactly is it that you are not happy with with the OEM setup?

Welcome Bain. Oil: Caltex Delo Gold 15W40 is my preference on both petrol and diesel. Not a big fan of synthetic oil.
Just a question regarding the rest of the parts, you are saving a lot of money by servicing it yourself so why not use OEM (original Toyota) parts?

Re: Buying a high mileage Hilux D4D
At that mileage the injectors have most propably been replaced, might want to find out. Secondly the gearbox if manual should be listened to well especially 5th if it was towed with. I wouldn't worry too much of the engine if it was serviced regularly. Pull it on a lift and check all suspension comp...

What i always do is grease the universals before i put the shaft back because then you can turn the yoke so that the clearing is big enough for the grease gun to fit in. But this advice means nothing to you now

Re: 4.0 V6 Tappet noise / valve clearance
1Gr-fe engines has shims not hydrolic lifters only the 1Gr-fe in the Prado and FJ has lifters. If the oilpump starts to fail it could cause the vvti sprockets to make a rather loud knocking noise. Measure the oil pressure. How do you mean the 1GR-fe has shims bit then you say the 1GR-fe in another ...

I've had it that valve lifters make those noises even after being submerged in oil over night. Just keep on idling until they are quite is what i always do. If the oil is getting to the cams and lifters then oil pressure shouldn't be a problem

[quote="lukestoyzx"]Take the thing somewhere else! Get the feeback values checked. Also get the check all the other specs and pressures as it may not have been an injector at all! A bad Scv will show the same symptoms. By saying it is the SCV (suction control valve) do you think it isn't r...

I would take all the extras out of the d4d and build the over on a V6. Its going to be cheaper, less problems and quicker. But thats just me.
Just a side note, i've seen d4d's over 400k km on the clock with no problems.

Klink amper vir my soos 'turbo lag'.
