No it definitely sings. Mine did from new and still does after 208000+ kms. I regularly drive it in 4x4.

Just on the service. Is it still under warranty? It is always a good idea to mention anything you have a concern about whilst the vehicle in under warranty. Even just to make sure it is on record.

Nog iets wat ek nou aan dink. Ek het al snaakse en heeltemal onlogiese goed sien gebeur met kar elektrieks as die grond nie goed is nie. Moenie net na die earth strap op die ratkas kyk nie maar gaan jou grond draad van jou battery af ook na.

I changed the tensioner on mine when it was time and would do it again at the next change. At 120 000 the one that came out was still perfect with no oil leaking and still very stiff/tight

Two things appear strange. Regarding a blocked CAT. It is unlikely that it would rev to 6500rpm if it was blocked to the extent that you cannot pull away properly due to lack of power. I wonder if it would rev to 6500 if the valve timing was out. Check the cat first though as this is a much cheaper ...

O ek sien wat jy bedoel. As die diff defektief uit die fabriek gekom het en die aste loop skeef kan dit seker groot probleme veroorsaak. Nie dat ek al voorheen daarvan gehoor het nie. Baie interessant.

I agree. The only way those valves could have bent was due to interference with the piston. Who assembled the motor after doing the head last time? Did they not have the valve timing slightly out and turned the engine (perhaps by hand ?) before realising that and fixing the timing? I am speculating ...

Just to add another dimension to this thread for someone in future looking at a solution to clutch/geartrain judder. Did you check if the regulator actually burned again? Did you measure the output of the pins after fitting the regulator? Just curious but no idea where to start looking. Not a sparky. If the reg burned again I would definitely suspect the alternator. The output should be in the region of 13 to 14 v...

No I did'nt use coolant from VW because I had already bought and put some from Toyota in the engine when I realised that they gave me pre-mix i.e. already mixed 50% with water. I don't have the invoices with me but about R1300. If I had to buy the full 10 litres it would have been closer to R1400 and if I bought the concentrated coolant from VW in stead R1150.00
