Re: KZte battles to start after a few days of being parked

Thank you gents... will try this afternoon. So confirm there should just be a click when turning ign on, not a buzz? Where do you earth your ECU to the engine? It looks like they have put the earth in a different place as i do not recall a cable mounted where this one is now...

Re: KZte battles to start after a few days of being parked

Thought it better to revive an old thread as am having a similar issue here and would appreciate some knowledgeable advise. Lux just back from service at a local shop here in Maun where they replaced alternator and cleaned up the turbo amongst other things. The day I was to collect it, mekanik advis...

D4D 4x4 - Manual or Automatic?

Hi everyone, I have been looking around for a newer vehicle and came across a rather neat 2006 D4D D/C 4X4 hilux. The only thing is it is automatic. I have absolutely no experience with automatic vehicles and was wondering what the general opinion of the autos are compared to the manuals. Power, fue...

Re: 2002 KZTE vs River

Craig, If this river had been flowing like that one, i don't know if i would be here to tell the tale... maybe surfing on Inhambane!! Lekker pic!! Edge, I live in Maun so we go play often and fortunately this was not on a road in one of the parks... that said, I offer a word of caution for those cro...

Re: 2002 KZTE vs River

Tumelo, it has just gone over 275K on the road and about 10m freestyle... Mervyn, I was very lucky and am still hoping against future gremlins, but I got away with a total cost of about ZAR 8400.00 (about 7000 BWP), bear in mind the pedal alone was P3600 and generally spares are pricier in Bots... I...

Re: 2002 KZTE vs River

So I followed the workshop manual procedure for running a diagnostics, bridged terminals TC and E1, counted the engine light flashes on the dash and it was saying "throttle control motor"... did some internet research and realised that it could either be the accelerator pedal or the thrott...

Re: 2002 KZTE vs River

A few things I have learnt from this experience: - Walk EVERY water crossing - Check that your snorkel is actually water tight – Mine leaked as the silicon had aged!!! - If you are going to be adventurous, ensure that you are with friends with proper 4x4’s. - Garmin make a good GPS, it still works t...

What followed was testament to good friends, knowledge accrued from reading everything you can and to Toyotas, you cannot kill them… in particular a 2.2 SFA Hilux which earned my respect… my bakkie was underwater, completely flooded and must have weighed 3 or 4 tons or more… we hooked up the tow rop...

2002 KZTE vs River

So there have been many posts about drowning a car… from reading them in the past, I had stored up a lot of valuable information deep in my subconscious, ready for this day… We crossed this river earlier in the day… did the usual, walked it, found a good line and crossed with no problems… on the way...

Re: Strange Noise - KZTE

Had a similar issue on my KZTE (260 000Km)... After much sweat and tears I discovered that the crankshaft pulley had issues. There are 3 pulleys on the crankshaft and a rubber seal / boot keeps the 2 larger pulleys attached to the smaller front pully. This had worn and now this frontal pully was fre...

Re: ECU problems on a drowned KZ-TE!!

Thanks all for the replies... Tony, I hadnt contacted insurance as yet as repairs so far were less than my excess but i have sent a request to them no to see how they will help. I will give getting components cleaned properly another bash and see if that helps for now. Piet, I am checking with Toyot...

Re: ECU problems on a drowned KZ-TE!!

Dumela Piet!!

The P/N for the ECU is 89666-35240... would this be the same as yours? I presume your throttle body and pedal sensors also needed to be changed during the conversion??

ECU problems on a drowned KZ-TE!!

Good day everyone!! I trust the winter chill is settling in well and fires are burning bright!! I had the recent misfortune of drowning my beloved hilux in a river (a leaking snorkel was partly to blame). After the recovery and towing it home, it started quite easily (after getting all the water out...

Apologies I if repat some stuff but my Afrikaans is not so lekker!!
