The guys at Powerflow exhausts also told me LRP sucks and to use Unleaded rather.
I have tried this but it didnt seem to make a difference.
I used use BP but I find both my bakkies get there best fuel consumption on Shell.
The difference is +/- 0.5 km/l.
Hi Bennie Yesterday I added 250ml 2 Stroke to the tank when I filled up. That is about 200:1 what ratio would you use? :? I do occasionaly get a bit of engine run on. It was worse last year but my idling was a bit high. I was always using BP6ES(incorrectly) I tried BP7ES but it didn't make a differe...
I have never heard of a 4x4 SFA Hilux having a limited slip diff standard so I have learnt something new! 8 )
My 1995 2.4SRX Hilux (4x2) has a Gearmax limited slip diff, just remember when changing the oil to use LSD oil!
My 2.4SRX(22R engine) gave me problems last year on a long distance trip. The gauge would start climbing to 3/4 on hills after driving for an hour or so. As soon as I went down hill she would drop to her normal position just below half. I stuck the heater on annd then the gauge stayed put. I spoke t...
Pieter it should work fine on the suspension just make sure you clean it with thinners. My undercarrige also has a lot of paint missing from gravel roads and bush scrapping the paint off etc. :x I did a trail the other day that was pretty overgrown with bush it actually polished up the bare sections...
Willem paint it with Hammerite and you won't have a problem again especially where you live.
Here in Fish Hoek if you look very carefully you can watch things rusting!
Some of the guys on the 4x4 community forum are recommending using 2 stroke oil(500ml per tank full) to clean any carbon deposits in the combustion chamber off.
Has anyone heard of this before?
Willelm I would take Andy's advice and use Hammerite. I have used it for years and it is pretty touch and corrosion resistant. They also make a primer that will give you extra protection against the rust. It is also very easy to spraypaint Hammerite I would say easier than conventional paints. The h...
Thanks guys I think when summer comes around again and she starts pinging I'll try retarding her a degree or 2 less than specs. I will double check vaccum pipes. I have been tempted to try Wynn's octane booster but if it works at R 30 per tank it is expensive. It is a pity we don't get higher octane...
My 2.4SRX has been pinging under load(mostly at higher speeds on freeway and hills) for the last year or so. :? :? :? I have checked timing, fuel mixture tried colder plugs and a combustion chamber cleaner(twice). But she only pings in warmer weather now that winter is here there is no pinging but a...
Cassie I'll have a look tonight for the 22R valve clearance adjustment article I got off the net a while ago and post the link tomorrow!(If I can find it  )
B
Thanks Bretton. Do you think it might actually fractionally dampen the sound coming from within the tappet cover?
Cassie I also had tappet noise issues(drove me crazy  ) which I later found out on a website on 22R tappet adjustment was that I was tightening the tappet cover d...
I have serviced my hiluxs for years with Castrol Magnetec. I am thinking about changing to another brand of oil after hearing about stories of sludge built up etc with Castrol oils. My 2.4 SRX(22R engine) is due for a service in 2 weeks or so. She has a slight leak on the rear crankshaft seal. :x I ...
Problem fixed! :D: Yesterday I put a few pieces of hose pipe around the leaf spring clamps on the right hand spring(troublesome one), I also greased the leafs with some copper grease. Result is a vast improvement I am still getting some noise(nowhere near as bad) but that sounds like it is coming fr...
I greased the shackles the other day.
I also tried the stethoscope on them and there wasnt much noise coming from them.
There dont seem to be any inter spring liners on my leaf springs?
Thanks Andy I did check the torque settings on the u bolts. I was thinking how I could get the nylon sleeves that go on the clamps. Thanks for the idea of trying rubber hose on the clamps. I have some old hose pipe at home maybe that will fit. I haven't seen any broken blades would...
I got my brother to rock the bakkie from side to side while I listened with a mechanics stethoscope. Noise is coming from leaf blades mostly the right leaf spring in particular the first blade under the main spring. The spring moves quite a bit from side to side? :o: It does touch the clamps as well.
I see they have stethoscopes at Midas for R100.
Will I be able to locate noise easier this way?
What about a using a screw driver and holding the handle to your ear?
When my wife arrived home this evening I could hear the noise from inside the house. On the right hand spring some of the springs are touching(on the one side) the clamps would this maybe be the cause of the noise? :? I see on my 2.4SRX(Std Toyota suspension) there piece of nylon around the ...
Now that the springs are lubricated and flexing easier, there is more movement on the shackles. It's still my guess that this is where the noise is coming from ... They need to be greasesd from time to time anyway. Do it and eliminate it as a possibility if that's not the cause. I greased th...
I sprayed the springs with Wynflon super lube with PTFE now the noise is a lot worse? Now if I stand on the rear wheel and hold onto the canopy roof rack and shake the vehicle from side to side I can hear the noise. So it is definitely the springs. I'll get someone to help me on the weekend ...
My Gregorys manual is actually for 1988 to 1996 Hilux(overseas model) with 22R engine. That model was available in IFS and SFA so the manual covers both and 2 wheel drive. I actually got the manual years ago from a friend when I purchased my 2.4SRX. The IFS suspension is identical to the 1998 to 200...
I was thinking of adding it to my 2.4SRX's gearbox. The gear change just doesn't seem as slick as it used to be especially down changing to 2nd or 3rd.
Then next time I change the gearbox oil(clutch is near the end of its life so I don't want to change oil yet) I will put in castrol Bot130m.
I changed the idler arm bushes Saturday morning. I bought a ball joint seperator from Midas for R 80 but it was too small  I had to modify it a bit by grinding a piece out of it. The ball joint seperator damaged the boot on the end of the idler arm shaft slightly but I managed to glue it with ...
My 2700i has strange noise coming from the back. When I purchased her last year she already had Iron man suspension which was fitted in 2006. Since I have had her I have had a strange sort of popping/distorting noise :? from the back when there is any flex in the rear suspension(say if its parked wit...
My workshop manual says if you don't have a ball joint seperator to put a hammer on one side of the retaining rod to support it and hit it from the other side with another hammer.
I am going try Midas first to see if I can get a seperator.
After doing some searching on the net I see they can bend when doing heavy off roading. I did take a knock in the front(bent bull bar slightly) on my last trail a couple of weeks ago. How does one check if it is bent? On one site they say if it is bent there will be signs of rubbing on the chassis I...
Saturday I had my tyres rotated on my 2700i but when it came to doing the wheel alignment they found that my idler arm was worn. The guy on the wheel alignment reckoned it should be replaced as a complete unit? I had a look in my workshop manual I have and it looks like a pretty easy job.Two bushes ...
One of my remotes packed up the other day.
The light on the remote came on and the battery was fine.
I had to buy a new remote from Toyota and send the bakkie to them for programming.
Cost was just under R 500 for the remote and programming.
They reckon the remotes only last 5 years or so. :o
I had a freeflow put on my 2700i a month ago with Powerflow Tokai.
There is definate improvement in low down torque between 1500 and 3000 rpm.
Fuel consumption has improved slightly as well (3 to 5%.)
And it sounds much better(I went for the quietest option).
Siemens, Bosch and VDO make excellent pumps... Toyota generally use Denso... they are about the same in terms of quality! Only difference is Toyota rips people off with ridiculous pricing... B Most of the stealers part prices are a rip off. The bike manufacturers to me seem to be the worst! And wit...
Fuel pump has been diagonised as being to the problem. Stealers want R 3500 for a new one. :o: My father contacted a friend of his in the motor trade who knows someone who might be able to adapt a Bosch pump to fit for a lot less.So I have sent the pump assembly to him. Now I must just hold t...
Check your fuse in the engine bay, can't remember the exact one but it chould be a 7.5A or 10A fuse, I think it says ECU pump or so or check the manual. Also had it a few years back. It starts and I only can drive for 1km and it stalls. Worth Trying, I also thought it was the pump, it never was. Lo...
My 2700i died last night on my wife after leaving work  .The engine starts but dies immediatley  . I had it towed into a workshop that does some of my work on my vehicles. They suspect the fuel pump as it runs on quick start and the pressure from the fuel coming from the tank is weak. Th...
My 2700i remote stopped working, red light comes on but remote does not open/close car.
I checked the battery it measures 3.02V.
Thankfully the spare remote works. :)
How do I go about getting the remote fixed or getting a new remote programmed to my alarm system. :?
Last year I asked you guys about my diff lock that I thought wasn't working(light doesnt stop flashing). The answer I got was that there has to be a difference between the the rotational speed of the two wheels to engage the diff lock. I have tried it a few times in sand but the light doesnt stop fla...
