The guys at Powerflow exhausts also told me LRP sucks and to use Unleaded rather.
I have tried this but it didnt seem to make a difference.
I used use BP but I find both my bakkies get there best fuel consumption on Shell.
The difference is +/- 0.5 km/l.

I have never heard of a 4x4 SFA Hilux having a limited slip diff standard so I have learnt something new! 8 )
My 1995 2.4SRX Hilux (4x2) has a Gearmax limited slip diff, just remember when changing the oil to use LSD oil!

Pieter it should work fine on the suspension just make sure you clean it with thinners. My undercarrige also has a lot of paint missing from gravel roads and bush scrapping the paint off etc. :x I did a trail the other day that was pretty overgrown with bush it actually polished up the bare sections...

Willem paint it with Hammerite and you won't have a problem again especially where you live.
Here in Fish Hoek if you look very carefully you can watch things rusting! :twisted:

Some of the guys on the 4x4 community forum are recommending using 2 stroke oil(500ml per tank full) to clean any carbon deposits in the combustion chamber off.
Has anyone heard of this before?

Willelm I would take Andy's advice and use Hammerite. I have used it for years and it is pretty touch and corrosion resistant. They also make a primer that will give you extra protection against the rust. It is also very easy to spraypaint Hammerite I would say easier than conventional paints. The h...

Thanks guys I think when summer comes around again and she starts pinging I'll try retarding her a degree or 2 less than specs. I will double check vaccum pipes. I have been tempted to try Wynn's octane booster but if it works at R 30 per tank it is expensive. It is a pity we don't get higher octane...

Andy I always run her on LRP.

It is a pity 97/98 octane isn't available any more :x it would probably help.

My mechanics checked the bakkie out a couple months ago after I couldn't come right with it myself.

I have narrowed it down to 2 oils for the 2.4SRX either Shell Helix High Mileage or Caltex Delo 400.

On the 2700i I'll try Castrol Edge next time I service her!

I greased the shackles the other day.
I also tried the stethoscope on them and there wasnt much noise coming from them.
There dont seem to be any inter spring liners on my leaf springs?

I got my brother to rock the bakkie from side to side while I listened with a mechanics stethoscope. Noise is coming from leaf blades mostly the right leaf spring in particular the first blade under the main spring. The spring moves quite a bit from side to side? :o: It does touch the clamps as well.

Now that the springs are lubricated and flexing easier, there is more movement on the shackles. It's still my guess that this is where the noise is coming from ... I want to get some spare radiator hoses for my emergency spares toolbox.

When I asked at Midas they told me to bring in samples? :problem:

I sprayed the springs with Wynflon super lube with PTFE now the noise is a lot worse? :shock: Now if I stand on the rear wheel and hold onto the canopy roof rack and shake the vehicle from side to side I can hear the noise. So it is definitely the springs. I'll get someone to help me on the weekend ...

My Gregorys manual is actually for 1988 to 1996 Hilux(overseas model) with 22R engine. That model was available in IFS and SFA so the manual covers both and 2 wheel drive. I actually got the manual years ago from a friend when I purchased my 2.4SRX. The IFS suspension is identical to the 1998 to 200...

I was thinking of adding it to my 2.4SRX's gearbox.The gear change just doesn't seem as slick as it used to be especially down changing to 2nd or 3rd.
Then next time I change the gearbox oil(clutch is near the end of its life so I don't want to change oil yet) I will put in castrol Bot130m.

I found a some sites on the net recomending white lithium grease for the blades?

Hi Charles

I 'll probably only do it next weekend.

My workshop manual says if you don't have a ball joint seperator to put a hammer on one side of the retaining rod to support it and hit it from the other side with another hammer.

I am going try Midas first to see if I can get a seperator.

One of my remotes packed up the other day.
The light on the remote came on and the battery was fine.
I had to buy a new remote from Toyota and send the bakkie to them for programming.
Cost was just under R 500 for the remote and programming.
They reckon the remotes only last 5 years or so. :o

I had a freeflow put on my 2700i a month ago with Powerflow Tokai.
There is definate improvement in low down torque between 1500 and 3000 rpm.
Fuel consumption has improved slightly as well (3 to 5%.)
And it sounds much better(I went for the quietest option).

I ended up buying a Siemens pump from Bosch diesel electric for R 600. :D

Should get my bakkie back this evening. :D

Pump rated at 3.8 bar max.

Check your fuse in the engine bay, can't remember the exact one but it chould be a 7.5A or 10A fuse, I think it says ECU pump or so or check the manual. Also had it a few years back. I checked the battery it measures 3.02V.
