Re: My 2.8D DC some more pics

Kompressor werk baie goed, pomp vinniger as garage lugpompe.

My 2.8D DC some more pics

Hi there, Like many other 2.8 diesels at the time, this one has a bit of engine history as well, which I documented here: http://www.4x4community.co.za/forum/showthread.php?t=24029" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. However, has been running like clockwork since new engine fit...

Hi John Good to see another one of those late models 2.8D's on the road still. Do not want to be pessimistic, but I think it would be in your interest to go see the creators of the beast that you are driving: Alpine Developments in Pietermaritzburg. They were contracted by TSA to design and build th...

Re: Conversion of aircon pump to tyre pump?

Thanks Guys You are 100% correct about the electrical pump - in fact, I have one. BUT I am 100% sure that I am going to remove the aircon radiator in a few month's time. Because it is a 2.8D, it really cannot power an aircon when heavily loaded under hot conditions in the first place, so I will not ...

Re: Conversion of aircon pump to tyre pump?

Hi Chris

Thanks, I would appreciate a few pics, but no need to hurry though. Will probably only do it in about three months' time. It seems to be a pretty straight forward modification, but more info will only benefit the end product. :)

Nou, as jy jouself 'n guns wil doen, vervang jou diff ring en pi...

Which differential ratios would one need to fit to bring a 2.8D (local rear Gearmax diff and difflock) with 31" tyres back to original differential ratio specs (as if it ran 215's).

And where do one get the ring and pinion gearsets?

Hi Louis I guess you are running 215/R15's then. I can forget to get to the top of this uphill section of the N1 doing 110 km/h on my 2.8D with 31" Cooper ST's! Anyway, if the needle moves upward, have your system checked out. These T gauges are notoriously insensitive to short term T changes (...

I also have a Gearmax rear difflock, and then installed an ARB air-locker up front. Find that I only very rarely need it. Considering the expense (about 10 grand), I would possibly next time rather spend the money on something else. The SFA is already such a capable vehicle, that you really need to ...

Maybe I did not express myself very well. :? There is no longer a problem here, because eventually, I replaced the engine with a new one. Oil light on this engine goes off almost immediately. Hilux 2.8D oil light

Has anybody had the oil light staying on longer than what one could regard as acceptable (say, 1-2 seconds) after start-up, on SFA, 3L, 2.8D's? This is a purely academic question, since I have recently completely replaced my vehicle's engine. I bought it with 16,000 on the clock, and from the beginn...

Sorry, Don't know what I have been smoking... John Conchie is the owner of Alpine Developments. And they were by no means beginners in the business of modifying vehicles, so I can still not understand how they managed to get it so wrong.

Re: 2.8 D/C TD - factory fitted

It is not a good idea. They love to overheat, and also love to burst the oil pipe to the oil cooler. Which just goes to show how close to the limit the installation was. Increases in oil capacity and oil coolers are only fitted when engines have heat dissipation problems. This is why you find them o...

I suppose you guys are talking about the "Stout" body shape. The 2x4 Toyota Stout was the only Toyota I ever drove with a front suspension that was less compliant than the SFA Hilux. Like the latter, it also had leaf springs in front, on a beam axle. I would agree you keep it as close to o...

It also helps to accelerate gently, then take foot off accelerator and at that moment slip it to 2H. But I once saw one that altogether refused to disengage. Turned out to be something that could be repaired from the gearlever side, a clip or something that broke.

Re: 2.8 D/C TD - factory fitted

AFAIK, because it was a bolt-on job (no internal engine mods) the turbo's were fitted pre-delivery by John Conchie developments in Pinetown, and approved by Toyota. Same thing for the 5L, 3.0TD, which was an even bigger disaster. One of the few large mistakes that Toyota made.

SFA heater radiator removal

I suspect damage to my heater radiator from cooling system overpressure, because the system is still loosing coolant whilst all pipes and the radiator are now leak-free. Any tips on getting to this component and having it repaired by a competent place?
