Magnetic Antenna Car Mount
Hi I'm looking for a magnetic antenna car mount (to be used with my kenwood). I have one of those drill-through-the-bonnet types currently, but don't really want to drill a hole through my wife's kombi :) Any advice where I can get one (new, second hand, or to borrow which would be great). Regards, ...

Re: Head gasket blown - Cost estimation to fix?
Hi Guys Thanks for all the feedback. I agree that it would have been a great learning curve, however I'm currently swamped for time. So I decided to take CME's offer.I also figure that with all the part replacements I get a service thrown in too. They did call me on Friday saying there are some scra...

A head gasket doesn't just blow, there has to be a cause.
About a year ago my radiator burst, causing the motor to overheat.
I fixed the radiator, but only recently noticed the water starting to drop.

Re: Head gasket blown - Cost estimation to fix?
So, received a quote from CME.
See attached.
A big portion of the cost is the service parts afterwards (although most not required I think).
What do you think?

Head gasket blown - Cost estimation to fix?
Hi all So I have noticed my radiator water is running out (no dripping though). So I took it to Silverton Radiators and they tested the compression as well as the blue liquid test (goes green if the gasket has a leak). It went green. So, they reckon it will cost between R7000 and R10 000 to have it ...

Re: Toyota Hilux 2.2 1993 - High idle when cold
I decided to take the bakkie to Carburetor Service Station, in Arcadia PTA. They overhauled and replaced all the bits of my carb. What a difference. It idles smooth, starts perfectly in the cold PTA morning. The auto choke is set up correctly. It cost me R390 for the carb kit, and then R400 for the ...

Re: Toyota Hilux 2.2 1993 - High idle when cold
IIRC there are 2 adjustment screws - one (at the base of the carb) is idle mixture, the other is for idle revs. Neither is for the choke. You can loosen the 3 screws on the ring that hold the choke 'solenoid' and turn the solenoid to adjust the choke revs on a cold start. Thanks. I'll check it out ...

Toyota Hilux 2.2 1993 - High idle when cold
Hi all I had my bakkie in for a service quite some time ago, and the technicians changed the idle speed when the bakkie is cold. However, now with these cold mornings it revs quite high for quite some time. The concern is that it revs at just over 3000 revs, which is too high. It sounds as if the ba...

2 way vhf radio worth it?
Hi My dad has a vhf 2 way and we go on long trips often. Is there any benefit in me getting one as well? It's quite expensive. I suppose game viewing could be enhanced and perhaps riding in convoy. Is it one of those things that you cannot live without once you have it? Please advise... Thanks, Justin

Re: Hilux occasionally does not start - Any advise?
Start by taking out the starter solenoid and just clean and lightly grease the "piston". I once had a sticky starter I sorted out that way, after the starter motor and battery proved to be ok. Ok, thanks. That's the chuck of metal that the positive terminal runs to? My Haynes manual's pic...

No, I do however have a jippo'd security key system. So, you have to push this rod into the holder before starting the car. But, this has been short circuited due to the annoyance factor.4x4megaworldpta wrote:One Question.

Hilux occasionally does not start - Any advise?
Hi I have a 1993 2.2 petrol DC hilux 4x4. Recently I have been experiencing some slight starter problems. When turning the ignition, there is sometimes a slight delay before the vehicle starts. Not always, just sometimes. Last weekend it didn't start at all. There was no click noise, so I assume the...

Radiator leeking a lot of water
Hi guys
My hilux 2.2 petrol '93 is leaking water, and fast!
Can a radiator be repaired? Can I do it myself? Alternatively, where can I get a new radiator?
Leaving for holiday in 3 weeks and have to sort it out before then.
Dankie ouens

Yes, I was thinking the ideal route would be through Nam, then over the Orange with the ferry and down the coastal road. Apparently it is accessible if you buy a permit. Well, that's what I heard.

Hi Guys and Gals I am trying to organise a trip down the west coast from the Orange river to Lambertsbaai (staying here for about a week). It's fuel injection.
I checked all the wiring accessible to me, but alas, no loose wires.
Think I should take it in to the garage.

Car losing fire when hitting bumps
Hi all Just to add here, my car isn't stalling after pull aways, it loses power (fire) when hitting bumps. Car still seems in gear, seeing that the gears are slowing the car down. Even when stepping on the gas nothing happens, until I hit another bump and it takes again. Some times I have to go to a...
