Re: World's fastest 4x4
Did you notice the quote at the very bottom of the article? "Originally designed to transport German Army staff officers to American and British army bases near the Rhine during the Cold War, the G-wagon has always been a Range Rover alternative for people who prefer to drive and not be towed. ...

I have been wondering about that recently. Does anyone know the procedure for renewing my firearm licence?Irishman wrote: It's the same with my gun licence, that renewal has taken a year so far.

Re: Tyre Size Question
Thanks gents. Did a small edit to the original question after thinking this through for 10 mins. You are too quick! But from the above replies I'm still confused. Is 10.5 wider or higher than 9.5 ?

Tyre Size Question
The tyres on my Lux are 31X10.5XR15. As explained to me by the HIQ 'expert' 31 refers to their width 10.5 refers to the sidewall height (as a % of the width?) and R15 is the rim size. My understanding is: 31 refers to the overall height 10.5 refers to the width R15 is the rim size Now I'm confused. ...

Thanks Louis. Good to hear. I'm due for 2 new tyres and looking around for something slightly cheaper than the Pirelli's (which I have) which cost R2500 each. My dad also rates the Khumos and now I can see that they look good too!

Re: Cruiser ventilated discs upfront
Thanks Thys,
I spoke to Allen yesterday and he planted the seed for doing this mod (and will be the one to undertake the work if/when I make up my mind). I was just wondering about other people's experience with it, if any, before taking the plunge.

I'm thinking of upgrading the front brakes on my SFA to the cruiser ventilated discs (as per viewtopic.php?f=1&t=641&hilit=cruiser+discs). Does anyone have any experience or comments (positive or negative) on this mod?

Ford F250
I pass this Ford quite often on my travels in Cape Town. Obviously too long for any standard garage, it lives outside on the pavement. Despite having ALL the extras it will never be a Hilux. http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee72/adin77/F250/Photo-0026.jpg http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee72/ad...

Cape Storm bags are also good. I have had great use of both my heavy and light duty Cape Storm bags. Remember to get an inner cotton bag which acts as a sheet and helps keep the kit in good condition.

Re: How do I minimize the risk when buying private
AA testing centres offer a roadworthy test (which you will need if the vehicle does not have a RWC) and a technical test. The latter is significantly more comprehensive (and expensive) but will also highlight anything significant that needs attention for the RWC (although you will still have to pay ...

Cape Town to Transkei Dec 07 Jan 08
The genesis of this trip began 5 years ago on an 8 day hike between Port Edward and Port St John’s. At each nights stop I would wearily lay my pack down, take off my boots, open my can of tuna and dream about driving to all these amazing places, in the air-conditioned comfort of a SFA Hilux, with ...

Re: Small pleasures!
Luphatana was our final destination before beginning the return journey to Cape Town. Neither our atlas or GPS maps showed the bay or the track leading to it, so we had to navigate the old-fashioned way, by asking the locals, and of course getting lost!!! There is a good dirt road that leads from Lu...

Re: Small pleasures!
I passed these bakkies as I was driving out of Luphatana. As the track was particularly narrow and steep I pulled over to allow the convoy to pass. Leading the way, the driver of the white lux rolled down his window, gave my ride the once over, smiled, and said "mooi bakkie". I could not h...

Thanks F_D & Bennie. You are spot-on. The previous owner opted for the 2nd battery instead of the Donaldsons as he and his family only used the vehicle for their annual camping holidays. Space constraints in the cab and bak, not to mention his massive fridge, won out over engine performance I gu...

At the risk of being pedantic, scorpions are never poisonous but often venomous. The difference being that poison usually refers to a toxin absorbed through the skin or stomach, while venom refers to a biological toxin (in the case of scorpions, neurotoxins, which affect your nerve cells) usually in...
