Re: Mechanic required in Gauteng
Hi Tim. thanks for the reply. I have been through the Facebook page, which is how I found them. I am familiar with the process of repairing the diff and I know some guys do it in a few hours to renew bearings and seals. With someone specialising in SAF’s, I would think it should take even less time ...

Mechanic required in Gauteng
Hi Guys. There was a previous post where I asked if anyone knows of a good mechanic in Gauteng and there was no reply. Hopefully I gets responses this time around. I found on face book a guy called Jaco, “Living SFA” whom I contacted to repair the wheel bearings and all seals on the front diff on my...

Re: The fuel consumption of my Hilux
Thanks Breekbeen, I think you are right. I dived the distance by the litres used. It gives KM/L.
I edited my post. So it actually is a bit heavy on fuel driving at 120km/h and I had my rears pumped to 2.4 bars of pressure.

Re: The fuel consumption of my Hilux
Hi Guys This is always a controversial topic - fuel consumption. I did my first so called “holiday” with my 94’ 2.2 D/Cab Raider. Really enjoyed it. Had a six day trip. Left Roodepoort on 7th July went to Wits Rural Facility, 6kms away from Orpen Gate of the Kruger National Park. Below are my odomet...

Cold water on a hot disc is one of the causes. Be careful when taking it to the carwash when the discs are hot. Pressurised cold water is sprayed on the discs!

Re: HILUX DISCS ???
In my opinion, if Toyota is not replacing it under warranty, then do not replace it on your own cost right yet. You stated that you are not experiencing any noticeable shuddering. Don’t repair what’s not broken. You stated you have 2 months left on the warranty. They probably just trying to make mon...

Re: 4Y ENGINE VACUUM HOSE INFO
Good morning Some assistance required please. The vacuum hoses were changed by the previous guy who serviced the carb and the vehicle ran better. I now overhauled the carb and brought the hoses back to the way it was intended to be from the factory. There is a vacuum hose diagram in the post right a...

Re: Carburettor / CO2 settings and ignition timing
Good morning I overhauled the carburettor yesterday at S.P. Carbs. They striped the whole thing and put back together with new parts. They do not have a timing light though and set it by ear. Although it seemed there was nothing much wrong with it before, the performance is much better now. The fuel...

Thanks alot, it certainly does. I will be joining the club now that I have a better understanding. I don't have exessories as yet though, winch, recovery equipment, recovery points, ect. My vehicle is OME just like the day it stepped out the factory. I have a factory 100 litre fuel tank, factory bul...

Hi Mud Dog
Please excuse my ignorance!
When you say “outings where the club has got a deal or provided sponsorship for members”
Is it that where all club members go out on a convoy?
What is the use of the VHF 2 way radios?

Re: 15 inch All Terrain Tyres
Hi Alexth. From my knowledge “Muds” do not make good road tyres. If you are not hard core all terrains are best. If you looking for second hand tyres try the local tyre shops. The guys who do the install of new tyres usually keep the older good tyres for their private resale. There are second hand t...

Re: Refurbishing old 4x4 Hilux in Cape Town
Hi Guys. I have a front diff leak into the knuckle and through the wiper seals. The right front bearing also needs replacing. I want to replace all front bearings and seals with new Molybdenum-Disulphide Lithium Base Grease as the manual specifies. Who is the best guy in Gauteng that can do the job?

Re: JohanM's 4Y EFI Conversion
Hi Mud Dog The guys do racing use them. Lots of guys convert their cars. Not sure how they set them up though. The 20 valve import motor for the corolla uses them as a standard feature. I’m sure one of the engineering companies can make up an aluminium manifold, similar to how they make exhaust bran...

Re: JohanM's 4Y EFI Conversion
Congratulations! Great build with step by step pictures and explanations. You state “But the trade-off for the increase in power on top is a loss of torque at the bottom end” Is that because of the cam shaft profile or some other reason? Does anyone have experience with individual throttle bodies an...

Hi Mud Dog. Thanks for the input. Just a little more clarification, please. I never had a problem before with it set at 10º. I was just trying to get it perfect. Thanks guys for the advice.
Do you suggest I take the timing to 12 degrees? Should I just replace the needle valve or do a complete carb kit?

Re: Carburettor / CO2 settings and ignition timing
Good morning. Thanks for the advice. the guy who serviced my carb said the timing was set at 10 degrees BTDC. he said the engine was a bit 'slow' . He tried 12 degrees and said it was a bit slow as well. He finally set it to 15 degrees. The truck seems to go more free now. Is 15 degrees ok? He final...

Carburettor / CO2 settings and ignition timing
I am a newbie to the 4x4 world and just purchased my first 4x4 last year October. I have a 94’ with a 2.2 4Y engine. I am getting the carburettor tuned this weekend. The choke doesn’t work. I was told that the CO should be set on the gas analyser about 0,5. From my knowledge I’ve learned to use 1 to...
