Re: Power upgrades for a 2.4

The standard 2.4 GD6 will feel roughly the same as the 3.0 D4D in terms of power. Know the output specs differ. You will have to go for a manual tune (either ECU upgrade or chip). Plug-and-play chips won't work for your upgrade ideas. To fit 35s you will have to have substantial suspension raise and...

Re: 2.4 or 2.8 for Overland Vehicle on a budget

I bought a 2017 2.4GD6 single-cab 4x4 for under R300k recently. The SR model. But you can get SRX for just over R300k. There is an enormous difference betweeen the 2.5 and the 2.4 in power. You won't really need more. Go and drive one and feel the difference. And if you still need more power, do wha...

Re: 2.4 or 2.8 for Overland Vehicle on a budget

You can always look for a decent 3.0D4D. Lots of them around. The engine will be a huge upgrade from the 2.5D4D.
But saying that, I recently upgraded from a 2.5D4D to a 2.4GD6 and engine wise that is big jump. Both single-cab 4x4.

One thing I have found in dealing with such things is to ask the person (in a nice way making them feel important) what the rule is and how you should apply it to your situation.
Then tell them thank you for their suggestion and that you will rectify the situation.
Then wave and smile.

Re: Dual Battery Options Hilux 2020

One negative of having the battery near the engine is that it gets really hot in summer. Not good for the battery. Many DC-DC chargers also stop charging over 50 degrees. Fitting it in the back should be cooler. The easiest option is solonoid (eg. National Luna). Fit it near engine, run cables to ba...

The standard 16" 2.5 steel rim is a 6J. Assume 15" might be similar. A narrow rim. Fitting wider (or to wide) tires will cause it to bulge. The biggest problem with the 2.5 engine (even more so if you have the lower spec version of the 2.5) is that it has not power/torque at very low revs....

In SA we only have the 3.0D4D Raider and the 2.5D4D SRX. Other models will be for other countries.
The SRX is more spartan than the Raider. Interior, wheels (both rim and wheel size). But there is also engine differences eg. intercooler, turbo etc between the models.
