Andy I believe that is the aircon idle up screw (A/C throttle up screw in yota pic), nonetheless I will take the carb off in due course for a proper inspection as it is impossible to see what's going on when mounted.

Alex you will most likely be looking for something called a 'Fast Idle Adjusting Screw' (I am not familiar with the 4Y carb, only the 22R's). Have seen many pictures of his vehicles throughout the process on the Whatsapp parts group and he does an extremely thorough job. R120 000 aint much for what is basically a new Hilux.

I've read somewhere on the forum that the carpet or plastic flooring (depending on trim) isn't available - give Toyota a ring and run through the years and trim codes to see if any type is available. If your vehicle has original carpet I would attain the same or similar from an automotive upholstery...

Good news!
Which bearing and did Allan say what was wrong with said bearing? Pinion? Quite unusual for the carrier bearings to give up I would imagine as they are not under undue stress when compared to the wheel bearings for example, especially after only 130k km's.

Often if the diff pinion has play you will get a low whirring or humming sound over a certain speed range and generally under load. Get under there and give the pinion flange a good tug in all directions - there should be bugger all to no play. Any movement relative to the housing of more than 0.3??...

I was on the right track actually. Stripped, cleaned & soldered all the big stuff no joy. Jumped a wire from battery pos to solenoid small lug many many times and everything works 100% always. Tried the standard wire running through ignition system many times also and it was haphazard as always....

Give Allan Venter a call - 0seven2 one2nine 11six0 - he is the Hilux whisperer and knows these motors backwards.
Possibly also query from him whether to swap out the head whilst you're at it as apparently the earlier model heads were prone to cracking...
