Re: 4Y blown headgasket

Thanks, silinder head removed and clear blown gasket on 4th cylinder. Also looks like its warped and needs to ne skimmed.
Question: can the head be skimmed with the valves still intact or must it be stripped bare?

Cheers

Costs to recon a 4Y 1987 SFA

Hi guys, the old lady's 4Y smokes and uses too much oil. Also very heavy on juice. What would it cost about nowadays to do a complete engine recon and is it worth it? Or should one just transplant something a little more powerful? The bakkie is used mostly on the farm but I would like to be able to ...

87 SFA 4Y tune-up specialist

Hi guys, my bakkie is located close to Nylstroom / Warmbad. Any suggestions for a place where I can take her for a proper Tune-up? I only manage to get 174km on my last tank of petrol!

Much appreciated.

Re: Solar Borehole Pump/conversion

Therein lies the rub Chris. I need a head of 85m. No small solar pumps there. When looking at the yield I need per day at that depth I would need to go for the 800w Grundfos (probably even the top model) or equivalent. I need about 5000 to 6000 lt. per day. The graphs of those pumps drop very quick...

Daai 7 jaar oue BFG's se rubber gaan maklik stukkies afbreek (chunk) want die rubber sal begin "brittle" raak. Dit sal wel goed op my plaasbakkie werk wat gemiddeld 20km/hr ry.........

Re: 300km on a tank???

I think that the average should be a little higher than that depending on how much city driving vs highway / open road driving you do. My old 4y used to give me better than that in town and on the rare occasion on the open road when conditions were ideal (no load, wind behind me, cool day / evening...

On average I only get 300km on a tank of pertol on my 87 SFA 2.2.
Used mostly in the farm and the odd trip to town and it cannot exeed 100km/h anyway.
Does this consumption sound about right?

Meest...

Morning gents,

On hot days (which is most days here in Limpopo) there is a build up of pressure in the fuel tank of my 87 SFA petrol.
I'm sure it has been covered before but anyone help with what I have to look out for?
