Thanks guys, my father-in-law's mechanic in Parys (where the car is), sorted us.

Toyota asked around R8000 for a new alternator.

Fortunately, we got sorted with a secondhand one. Hopefully we will not fry it again ...

Oops, when I asked Midas for an air filter, they showed a rectangular thingy, not a round cylindrical one. (I suspect it must be for a Camry)

What is the price of an Air filter, and what is a decent make (FRAM, GUD). Toyota charges R1100 for a filter ...

Does anyone know what the amp rating is on the power socket at the back of a Prado 90?

I want to run a Campmaster 45L fridge from it, but I am concerned about the current drawn?

I will disconnect the fridge when the car is not running.

I have read that the 5vz-fe is a free-running engine - "Also, the V6 is a non-interference engine, or "free running", meaning if your belt breaks you have a bad day, but your engine is not toast."

So I took leave on Monday, and set it aside to service the Prado. Gee, took me 15 minutes to locate the oil filter. For future reference, it is beneath the alternator. Also, good luck to anyone trying to loosen it. It took me a good 2 hours to get it loose. I ended up breaking one of those 3 legged ...

We didn't encounter a vet post, but that was 3 years ago. We entered at Mcarthy's rest, went to Tshabong (overnighted there) and went straight to Mabua... The only problem I have with auto's is to drive down very steep declines, and hopefully someone can share a few tips on that.
