2001 ifs HUGE power steering leak.

I am puzzled. My 2001 ifs KZTE is losing power steering fluid at an alarming rate. I have looked everywhere along the pump and pipes but cannot seem to find the cause.

Leaving a sheet of paper under the truck overnight reveals a wet patch the size of a side plate! I understand that paper will make the patch took bigger but there should be nothing.

I would appreciate any help here greatly.

Looking at the nose of the bakkie, the oil drip sits on the right rear nut of the bash plate. There is also a drip visible on the rear of the power steering pump.

Sounds like the shaft seal on the pump is leaking. You'd have to clean it off properly and then check where the ATF actually weeps from.

Mud dog I did just that and it seems to be appearing from the rear of the pump (the side that faces the firewall). There are no other possible places to he leak could come from.

Now next question: can one recon the seals or is it mega money replacement time?

The pumps can be re-conned - much cheaper than replacement. I would just first make sure that it's not one of the hose / pipe connectors that's leaking - Had that problem before. :winkx:

Feedback: found a CT company called POWER STEERING SOLUTIONS. Very professional service. Collected my Hilux at 8.15 and was emailed final invoice for payment around 12 same day! Had hilux delivered back to me by 2pm! All without having to phone or shout or anything?? Was very impressed!

Not sure. Seeing as the vehicle has not had one in 265k kms I opted to replace.
