best route jhb-shakawe(bots)- montagu

In July I need to deliver a trailer from JHB to shakawe botswana and then drive down to montagu in the western cape. It is not my vehicle so cannot do any serious bush safari but the thought of sitting on a tar slab for 4000km does not excite. looking at stretching the trip to around 8 days from start to end. any suggestions of overnight spots and route would be appreciated. thanks.
