Hilux D/C Suspension
Good day
This is my first post on the forum and I need some advise from people who know more than me about the suspension of a Hilux.
I have a 2010 D/C, fitted with an ARB bumper, winch and drawer system. I am in the process of buying a canopy as well and considering a long range fuel tank later on.
The suspension on my vehicle is OME coil springs and shocks. The leave springs are still standard factory fitted. (I bought the vehicle second hand like this)
The question I have is: will fitting extended shackles to the standard leave springs be sufficient to lift the rear of the Hilux after sagging due to extra weight added (drawers, canopy and fuel tank), or will I have to replace the leave springs completely?
I have also heard about air springs, it seems to be a bit less expensive that changing the leave springs but I am skeptical about this.
Any comments or suggestions will be much appreciated.
Regards,
Johan

Re: Hilux D/C Suspension
Hi Johan. Does the back end of your Hilux sag permanently? Maybe the OME coils in the front gives too much lift which makes it look like the vehicle is running uphill... In that case I would consider changing the rear leaf springs to adapt to the lift given by the fronts..
Add air helpers to level the vehicle out when you are carrying a full load, by all means. They do work..

Re: Hilux D/C Suspension
Welcome Johan.
I added extra blades to the back and had the old ones reworked. Then added extended shackles. The load is too much for the standard suspension.
When you have the work done load the vehicle full, helps with the levelling out of the vehicle.

Hi Thys.
At the moment it seems as if the bakkie is level rather than sagging. But I was told by 4x4 Megaworld if I add a canopy and fuel tank it is a MUST to change the leave springs. But I cannot see why, if the bakkie was designed to have a load carrying capacity of 800kg.
Thank you for the response.

Re: Hilux D/C Suspension
Hi Johan. Ander suspensions opsit was net te duur vir my.

Re: Hilux D/C Suspension
Hi Johan
I have a 2005 D/C with extended shackels and an extra blade at the back.
My vehicle stands level fully loaded or empty. I have a aluminium canopy installed. The extra blade and shackles makes a huge difference when the Lux is loaded. And there is no nose lifting or back sagging.
I once towed another Lux from Maputo to Nelspruit on a trailer and the vehicle performed like driving to the mall.
I would go the extra blade and shackles, if I was you. For safety and for comfort, plus the cost will be manageable... M2CW

Re: Hilux D/C Suspension
Hi Thys,
