Which awning ....

So Elders is now ALMOST done (dis mos nooit klaar klaar nie ...)
We need shade while camping ....
Do I stay with the Easy pop Gazebo ??
Do I get an awning ??
What type of awning ??
- ostrich wing looks nice (not sure if it will fit though.. and struggling to get to see one in the CAPE)
- they "jack out" type ... have seen it in use and like it, yet have been warned these dont like wind ...
- en hierna is dit mos nou maar weer terug na awnings met pale, toue en grond penne ...
will appreciate feedback from those that have USED the different types - good bad and ugly, and why you will a specific type for your next vehicle.
dankie manne en dames.

Ask Thys to show you his that we made for him, maybe we can do something custom for you as well
I use a gazebo and a awning on the vehicle as well, always carry both with.

I have one of those Hanibal awnings which do not need poles. I like it very kwaai because I do not like ropes while camping. Also when you stop next to the road to have a quicky (breakfast) you can quickly pop it open. Takes a minute or two to open and fold back.

Is the quicky before or after breakfast

This option sounds bakgat! Neil, how about pricing? 2300x2500 (rope on short side). I already have a homemade awning with shadecloth so have 3x poles & ropes for the far end. My existing one rolls up into a 115mm PVC pipe with screw on end caps but as Thys says, looks untidy & resembles a Bazooka (I did spray paint it camo). Gave the border man at Vioolsdrift a mild heart attack.
Sorry for the hijack Chris.

Back to topic. When I was traveling I had the standard pop up which was great but I had to shed some weight so this was one of the things I left behind when I crossed the border. To replace it I we used our tarp with 2 poles. It actually worked great.Cheap and dirty.Just the way I like it.

Have Ostridge wing which works great. Quick & easy. Bit pricey, but worth it.

At long last I took the pics.
The only things I do not like about this waning are:
1. I should have taken an Ostrich wing one, since my kitchen is on the tailgate most of the times, it would have been nice to at least do it in the shade.
2. When you fold those two arms rub against each other, not mutter how tight you roll it. Because it is aluminium it gives of black powder because of the rubbing and that makes the canvas very dirty and let it look bad. That is why I added those pieces of rubber to try and keep the arms apart when rolled up.
Oh ja and that scew bracket, I got it like that from Hannibal, I think the hinge of the arm was too small for the bracket so it bent the bracket when they tightened it, does not seem like it bothers them they just send it out like that.

Pieter,how do she handle wind

Very well, that was my main concern when I bought it since we stay in the wind capital of South Africa.
One day I did get a bit worried but then I just tied a rop from the end of the awning to the ground to prevent it flying up. It does have Velcro straps on the inside of the canvas which you strap around the arms.
