I am sure you have all been asked this question many times by new members like me....
What I would like to know....My "91" 2.2 D/C hilux.
1)Is the "91" a good model or not...I have heard some models are heavier on fuel than others???
2) I don't really want to make to many changes to her, would like her to be original as possible. Is this recomended or not??
3)if I was to change the leaf springs..What is the ones recomended for a comfort ride.??
What are they worth about.. Done about 164000km I am only the 2nd owner. Did complete profesional respray. New 10J rims. New 265x70 15 Goodyear AT/R.. She has never been used as a 4x4 apart from a bit of dirt & sand roads.
Only rust she had was only a small bit of surface rust. Everything works.
Well !!
"91" D/Cab Hilux.

Hi Andy
I am very much a novice myself but I will try my best to direct you to some threads on the forum which will help answer your questions.
1. I think most guys will tell you that all SFA Hiluxes are great :!: have a look here about fuel consumption but you will notice that even same model and motors can vary greatly.
viewtopic.php?f=8&t=916
2. Depends what you intend to do with it.. more on/off road etc... but I think most people enjoy to make their Hilux's there own kinda like what you have done already. Definite improvements that can be made to a Lux I would say are suspension/fuel consumption/power increase/brakes you will find many ways of doing this here on the forum. One of the very interesting things going on at the moment is the conversion to a 1800 golf carb. Way to tech for me to understand but still fascinating.

3. If you got the bucks: Old Man Emu, you will find lots more information here:

Cant help with the value of the vehicle Im afraid but I do know that you never really get back the money you spend on extras so better to keep the vehicle and enjoy it for as long as possible
Hope this has been some help

Thanks Tristan Thanks -F_D.
Will check out tha sites you have given me.
As far as the fuel comsumption goes, I will do a test on mine and let you know .I will base it on genral town driving.
The suspention will just have to wait a while, before I end up sleeping in the garage with my Hilux...Hmmm might not be a bad idea.Ha Ha
Tristan .. As far as SELLING my Hilux...Its NOT going to happen. And yes you are so right, one never gets back what one spends on them...Well not money if one sells. But one gets a lot more back in the PLEASURE'S they give us in return.

Re: "91" D/Cab Hilux.
ABout 4 yrs ago I bought my lux for R45K, and sold it two yrs later for R50K
When reading the specs on the 2.2, it seems if one drives at 80km / hr, you could get around 10l / 100km. Has anyone ever put this theory to the test.
From the fuel consumption post, the average was about 15-16l / 100km. I can personally say from my previous lux, this holds tru. Would be interesting to see if you could get 10 l / 100km on a 2.2 driving like miss daisy

Won't work, too much gear-changing with a standard 4Y and normal to slightly hilly roads at those speeds.
