What clutch to use? 4x4 D4D
Seems the releaser bearing on the lux is on its way out.
I want to replace the entire clutch kit
Any suggestions on whether to use the genuine toyota clutch kit or is there anything better? I used an afternarket kit on the RunX and its 10 times better than the stock one.
Also, can anyone provide indications on pricing?

LUK is goeie clutch. Spaar op die labour en doen dit self saam met n vriend of 2, dis nie so moeilik nie.

I took the clutchplate in for relining with kavlar - you will never have to replace the clutchplate again. I am impressed with the difference. Speak to Shawn at Gearbox Co. 011 805 6500 Midrand. It's a bit pricey R1 425 - clutchplate only
Re: What clutch to use? 4x4 D4D

AJ.... Jy sê mos jy like gewoonlik my raad.... luister nou gou hier.... doen jouself 'n @#$@$@ groot guns.

thanks Ewerdt, but what about when other parts of the clutch kit wear? like when the releaser bearing eventually wears? you would need to change the releaser bearing but not the clutch?Bulletjie-3 wrote:I took the clutchplate in for relining with kavlar - you will never have to replace the clutchplate again. Re: What clutch to use? 4x4 D4D
Thanks Nishan that was my approaching angle aswell. So my theory is as follows :a 4*4 really uses its clutch and one changes the clutch most of the times because the plate is worn and not due the the noisey thrustbearing or seldom for the pressure plate defect. Keep in mind that one can burn the clutchplate aswell due to overheating. So if I can elliminate the most common problem - clutchplate that is worn - then I have one problem less. Shawn is very much involved with the Land Rover club and they are much inpressed with the results. I have used a new thrustbearing and pressure plate on mine - so only time will tell. I hope I have one less thing to worry about.

cool. makes sense. does the new coated clutch "bite" more? as in it grips better with less clutch slip?Bulletjie-3 wrote:Thanks Nishan that was my approaching angle aswell. Re: What clutch to use? 4x4 D4D
ok so i changed my clutch.
bought a LUK from Gemini parts. Full kit
My mac fitted it yesterday. Now the clutch disengages like .5cm or less from having the clutch fully depressed.
also, its not taking gears as smooth as before.
especially 1st and reverse but does it with all gears. u have a maybe tap the accelerator to blip the revs before it will engage the next gear.
when it doesnt take first u have to pump the clutch before it will go in.
ideas? could it be the clutch is a pirate version of luk?
or not installed properly?
or is there a resevoir with clutch fluid that i should check?

Re: What clutch to use? 4x4 D4D
Daai jack werk. Arbeid om clutch te vervang hoor ek is so ±R3000. Doen dit self, dan het jy 'n transmission jack en jy spaar 'n duisend rand. 2 weke terug myne gedoen - moet sê ek wil dit nie gou weer doen nie.jacques kotze wrote:Adendorff machinary mart R1995.FUDGES wrote:Do one of you guys know where I can get a gearbox jack?
